Have you ever taken off your mask while sleeping?

Post by cake321 » Fri Feb 17, 2012 7:33 am

Really strange. I've been on CPAP since September and this is a first. I woke up in the middle of the night and had my chin strap and mask in my hand. My CPAP was also turned off. Should I be concerned that I did all of this in my sleep? Apparently I unstrapped the chin strap (which requires 3 steps), pulled the mask off, AND reached over to my nightstand and turned off my machine! I was pretty confused when I woke up and realized.

I did for the first time 2 nights ago.I've been on a machine for about 6 weeks. I even undid the side that I always leave hooked. I think something woke me and I must've thought it was my first alarm going off and removed the mask. I did have a large amount of caffiene the day before so I think thats part of it.

No worries. It happens to a lot of us every once in a while. I've been on CPAP since May, and it's happened twice. First time, I took off the mask and put it under the pillow (still blowing). The second time, I turned off my machine, removed my mask and chinstrap, and hung them over the bedpost like I do every morning. As long as it doesn't happen regularly, it's nothing to be concerned about.

Are you sure you didn't fall asleep before you had a chance to strap on your mask and turn on your machine?

Yes, in the very beginning. I just needed to get used to wearing the mask and the machine. It didn't take too long.
