new machine -S9- Cflex and ERP the same thing?

Post by chopper06 » Tue Feb 14, 2012 10:12 pm

WEnt back to the clinic tonite for my new machine ( I had the Fisher Paykel ). They gave me an S9 -CPAP. I asked the DME if it is data compatible, the guy said "no". Not sure if he is right or not. The narrative for my sleep study indicated AHI 4.2 during 29 minutes of CPAP at 8cm. of water. Is this an ok number or is it high for 29 minutes? My narrative also states CPAP may be increased to 9-10 cm, as limited time was spent at CPAP 9 cm.
What does sleep arousal refer to on my report?
I asked about an S9-autoset, and the DME said "oh no, we don't even carry that. It is too expensive"......I guess I will see how the machine works tonite.
I was really hoping to get the s9-autoset so I could go CPAP, and if ever needed go auto. I will have a 30 day trial with this machine.
Is c-flex the same as EPR? The c-flex is set at 2 in the new machine.
Any thoughts, opinions or insights appreciated......thanks!

CFlex is available on the Respironics machines and is a form of exhale relief.

If you have a ResMed S9 machine (of some model) it will have EPR.

While EPR and CFlex are both exhale relief features, they are entirely different in how they go about the exhale relief.

What is the name on the machine that you have?

The good news is that if they gave you an S9 Elite, then the machine DOES record full efficacy data!

"Sleep arousal" is when apnea wakes you up or drags you out of deeper sleep until you start breathing again. It screws up your sleep quality and can cause many of the same problems as not sleeping enough.

In an in-lab sleep study, I think it usually means the EEG showed certain changes at the same time as your airflow was blocked. If a CPAP machine reports an arousal, it's probably estimating that you had one from the airflow data.

EPR and Flex are both methods to reduce the pressure when you exhale to make it easier to exhale. They may have some other benefits as well.

Congratulations on getting an Elite, not an Escape. It should say "Elite" next to the knob. Get the free SleepyHead software to look at the data.
