Help with gift Sullivan V Elite please...
Help with gift Sullivan V Elite please...
I've been using an M Series Pro C-Flex CPAP Machine with heated humidifier for years, but I desperately need a new machine and have no insurance. A friend has tried to help by giving me an old Sullivan V Elite. It belonged to her deceased fiance so she has no idea how to work it. Despite downloading the manual for it, I haven't been able to adjust the pressure and it's set way too high for me (I use 13 and it's at 20). The lights on and above the buttons never light when I hold them down. Also, sometimes it just starts and runs the pressure all the way up, other times nothing at all happens except I get sore fingers. The stop button seems not to work at all either. Any suggestions please? I'm trying to use this machine until I can come up with the money for an appointment to get a new set of prescriptions and for a newer machine but it is going to be a while.

Kaylis,
That machine is almost an antique and I doubt you'll find anyone using it. I looked on apneaboard for a clinician's manual. Didn't see one but maybe I missed it.

I recommend looking on Craigslist and buying yourself a cheap interim machine. Right now on the forum, there's a guy with a couple cheap machines for sale. The Bipap pro2 could be set to cpap mode. I wouldn't go much higher then $50. Point being...forget about the sullivan and find a newer machine.

Check your private message box. I sent you 2 links to a couple of Sullivan provider setup guides.
I also have this. Unsure if it is what you need. This is the extent of my old stash of info.
ResMed S7 Sullivan Lightweight
1) Turn on your machine and wait for the "Welcome "message to appear.
2) Press the right button (with the red line on it - it will also have the word EXIT above it in the display window)
3) Now the display should show "S7 Lightweight " or "S7 Elite" or "S7 Spirit" and the word MENU should show above the left button.
4) Press both the right button and the down-arrow button at the same time and hold down for at least 3 seconds.
5) "CLINICAL MENU - WELCOME" should show in the display. Continue holding down the two buttons for several more seconds until the words in the display window say....
6) "CLINICAL - MENU exit" (Release the two buttons now.)
7) Press the left button with the word MENU above it
Next you should see "SETTINGS - ENTER exit" (if SETTINGS doesn't show it may be "RESULTS" or "OPTIONS" or "SERVICING" if it is any of these other words then use the middle up/down toggle button to navigate to "SETTINGS"
9) When you see "SETTINGS" in the display, press the left button with the word "ENTER" above it (this now takes you into the SETTINGS menu)
10) Use the up/down toggle button in the middle of the top of machine, to navigate to the settings you want to change - when you have the setting you want to change, press the left button with the word "CHANGE" above it.
11) Use the up/down toggle button to vary the settings.
12) When the setting change you want is showing, press the left button under the word "APPLY."
A change is not saved until you press the "APPLY" button, so it's safe to hit the Change button and look at the various changes that can be made to a setting. No change is actually made unless you hit "APPLY."
To get out of the "Apply" and "Change" areas and go back to simply walking through the menu items, press the righthand button under the word "Exit." Exit acts like the backarrow button of a browser.
To exit completely out of the clinical menu just keep pressing the right button. It will have either "cancel" or "exit" written above it. Press it repeatedly (3 or 4 times) until you're out of the clinical menu.

Leave it to Pugsy to have the info...
I Googled the machine and found this...for what it's worth.

I started out with the Sullivan V (not the Elite) 13 years ago.jamiswolf wrote:

As noted in your link, setting the pressure requires the use of a manometer.

Re: Help with gift Sullivan V Elite please...
Well, you're wrong. I was still using my Sullivan V Elite up until just TWO WEEKS ago. It is 12 years old. Still has "Y2K Compliant" sticker on it. And it still works great. My sleep doc wanted me to get a new CPAP as it could potentially die any time. It is a bit large and heavy but very rugged. The housing is very solid compared to my new S9 ELITE. I've flown with it many times and worried more about my laptop getting mistreated at security gate than the CPAP. The ResMed Sullivan V Elite was ahead of its time with one feature. It had something a bit like EPR but it was automatic. No settings for it.jamiswolf wrote: That machine is almost an antique and I doubt you'll find anyone using it.
I'm keeping it for a backup just in case. With instructions on how to set the pressure now available, I'll change it to my new prescribed setting tonight. Unfortunately, it has a cool passover humidifier instead of warm. But I used it that way for 12 years without a problem so I can handle it.

Why don't you help Kaylis with pressure adjustment then?

Re: Help with gift Sullivan V Elite please...
Thank you all for your help . I knew the machine was old, since the person who used it died in 2004. His fiance gave it to me in hopes it would help. I was able to rig a connector for my hoses, but I still need to try the new information I've been given so I can adjust it.
At the same time I've been hunting on craigslist near anyone I thought might pick up a machine in person and send it to me. Luck seems to be with me as someone living near my parents is selling a resmed VPAP 25 I can afford. It's more machine than I probably need, but should work really well. I'm still going to work with the Sullivan as a backup. When I get this "new" machine, I'll put it in my profile.
