First Night with a headcold

Post by dvejr » Thu Mar 02, 2006 7:24 pm

Last night, my first with nasal pillows, the Swyft didn't fit so well; next step is to move up to a medium nosepiece.

My pressure is 12, and once the ramp-up was over I also felt like I had a pair of firehoses in my nose! All that pressure on my face when I used a mask was hard enough to get used to - deliver twin typhoons straight up the nostrils and it definitely takes some getting used to!

But bad news this afternoon - I feel a bad cold coming on fast. I may have to sleep hoseless tonight since both my interfaces are nasal.

I've had a head cold the past two nights and unable to use the CPAP.

Right now I'm sitting up with the mask on seeing if it'll work tonight. I suspect when I lay down that my nose will clog up.

Tomorrow I'm ordering a full face mask for these occasions.

head cold

I am currently suffering from a head cold and I found using Dristan Nasal spray opened my nasal passages at night and I was able to use my CPAP all night! Will use it again tonight.

I also bought a full face mask just for "cold" occasions. I've only used it a couple of times, but when it's needed, it's needed!

I have found that when I have a head cold that if I turn up the heated humidifier level that it helps to keep the passages clear.

I've got a breeze as my only mask at present and I have a head cold. My pressure is usually about 9.6, but 2 nights ago it went to 14 and last night was 13.4 - thank goodness I have an APAP - But what is great is that I have a stuffed nose and still the machine keeps my passages open enough to sleep!!!

I agree that I need to just about double the humidifier level - and am therefore grateful that I have the aussie heated hose to stop rainout - only with the humidifier on a high setting can I cope with the pain in my throat.

I hate head colds! But I am extremely grateful for APAP.
