Res Med Mirrage Quattro Full Face Mask Help!

Post by reffus1881 » Thu Feb 02, 2012 8:06 pm

First night with machine S9 Res Med Elite/Heated humidifier.Full face mask is Mirage Quattro Medium. Problem: The valve where the air enters the face mask is closing when i put the mask on Hence no pressure into mask. i take the mask off and the valve opens. The DME set up the machine everything worked fine in his office. So i guess i need to know what is the trick for keeping the valve open.
Thanks

The little flap on the elbow between the hose and the mask closes when the air comes through (when machine is on); it's the anti-asphyxiation valve. It should be open when machine is off. That is how it is supposed to be so that if your machine loses power and stops running during the night, you would get fresh air through the valve instead of re-breathing your own exhaled carbon dioxide.

That said, if you are not getting air into the mask from your hose, something else may be wrong.

Randy is absolutely right...as long as you feel exhaust coming out of the vents, you are getting plenty of air. When you turn on the CPAP the flap shuts to keep the pressure at your prescribed setting. If the power goes off the vent opens so you can breathe. It sounds like everything is working properly.
