Hello from a newbie

Post by Notsleepyanymore » Sat Jan 28, 2012 6:51 am

Have been lurking on here for a couple of weeks and decided to join in the hopes of being able to contribute and learn more myself. I have to say that I gleaned a great deal of information here and got enough knowledge to get the CPAP machine I wanted.
I was originally diagnosed with OSA about 10 years ago and got a CPAP machine at the time. Tried to use it for a couple of weeks and gave up because of the intense headaches it gave me. It did not have the ability to regulate pressure to let me exhale and it felt like I was trying to breathe into a leaf blower on full blast all the time. Lived in denial for a long time, until very recently when the effects of deprived sleep were catching up to me and affecting my quality of life. Went back for a sleep study and I now have a Resmed S9 Autoset. What a difference compared to the original machine! Other than the sensation of the mask on my face, I can barely tell that it's blowing air at 15cm pressure. I have been on it for almost two weeks now and can feel a huge difference already. My average AHI is 1.7 and leaks at about 4.13 I have ordered the Swift FX nasal pillow to see if I can get by with that and improve comfort. Looking forward to my interactions here.

Welcome. Thansk for posting. That AHI is great if you can work on the leak with the new mask you'll be in good shape.
Good luck, keep us posted.
