Advice on selecting a new auto cpap

Post by antlerpens » Wed Jan 25, 2012 6:48 pm

I was a member of this discussion board a number of years ago (my username was DrowsyDad) and really enjoyed the great information and conversation with other cpapers as I was beginning my therapy. I especially grew to respect the opinion of Restgal.

I have been unable to participate for awhile because I have been dealing with cancer and other health issues that have keep me kind of preoccupied, but find myself needing some advice. I am in the process of selecting a new auto cpap. I had an old REMstar auto that worked well until it died. And now I am using a REMstar plus with c-flex. I don't like the size of it; I would like something smaller. It is louder than I like but I have gotten used to it. I have decided to purchase on line as opposed to a local DME because I like having a wider selection to choose from than the two they wanted to sell me.

Any suggestions for a dependable auto? I will be paying out of pocket so I want to keep it as inexpensive as possible but still get a quality machine that will last. Any feedback on Fisher & Paykel or the DeVilbiss IntelliPAP Auto? I would apppreciate the input.

Thanks,
Scott

Get the Philips Respironics System One (PRS1) auto or ResMed S9 AutoSet (NOT Escape Auto.)

The cost difference vs. other machine choices will not be that much spread over the time you'll be using the machines.

I can heartily endorse the DeVilbiss Intellipap Auto. It has a small footprint, no power brick, a 3 yr warranty, and good data output via Smart Codes or more detailed data via Smart Link software. You will find it to be very quiet as well. I've had mine 16 mos and am very pleased with it. You can get a good price online for the IP and humidifier for around $430.

Hope that helps!
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

+1 on the DeVilbiss Intellipap AutoAdjust. It's a really fine machine, you'll love the way the AutoAdjust algorithm works.

I find the Intellipap Autoadjust great! It has everything as well as a good price! I have used Respironics (now Philips Respironics) machines since I was diagnosed about 10 years ago, until last year, but now I love the Intellipap Autoadjust. I get great therapy and data.

Thanks for the input. I decide to go with the IntelliPap; ordered it today, shipped today, should be in early next week! Great service from our sponser site. i can't wait to compare it to the old dinosaur that I have been using for years. I am sure that I will be checking back in after a couple of weeks for some advice as to how to tweak my setup. I'm so thankful for a site that has advice from people who really know about cpap, actual cpap users!
