CPAP cure insomnia?

Post by Dazzles » Mon Jan 23, 2012 6:45 pm

I've had severe insomnia since I was---well--- born. My mom always reminds me of the days as a kid just staring at my ceiling or playing with toys quietly while the family slept.

As an adult it is "better". I find I can easily fall asleep and sleep for hours if it is the middle of the day (what the HECK).

Normal hours of sleep? Difficult. No matter what I do that day, how late I stay up, how overwhelmingly tired I get -- the minute my head hits the pillow I am wide awake. I only ever feel sleepy when I'm not supposed to sleep!

Anyone else dealing with insomnia AND sleep apnea? How do you fall asleep with your mask on? Having the mask has made things so much worse. Since I started I've had 3 successful nights with CPAP. Two of those nights were after going 3 days with no sleep, the other was with the assistance of 1/2 of an Ambien.

I don't know what to do! I can't fall asleep. I just drift off into half-sleep and wake up tons of times. I get my 4 hours of compliance in a night (awake) and then I either get up and don't sleep or try to sleep without my mask. Thanks to sticking it out these last couple months, I now own a new machine because I met my insurance requirement.

Do I just keep trying and it will get better?

I already do the melatonin/varian root combination. Nyquil, Benedryl, etc has never had a drowsy effect on me.

I know CPAP treats the quality of my sleep -- what do I do if I can't get to sleep at all?
