Vivid Dreams

Post by btown » Tue Jan 17, 2012 5:20 pm

I haven't had many dreams since I was a child. Now ever since starting CPAP I am having more dreams than I can ever remember having before. I usually only have maybe 1 dream per week that I remember. Now I am having 4-5 a night. And they are very vivid as well. Does this have anything to do with CPAP? or is it just a coincidence?

When did you start? You're probably just catching up on REM sleep.

Not at all unusual. You might be dreaming more, or just remembering more.

I have very vivid dreams. Fell asleep last night before putting on the old face mask and had no dreams all night. On the other hand, I slept all night without ever waking up, which never happens when using the ASV.....

But yes, I will go back on the machine tonight.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but the topic of dreams reminded me of this. I thought we only dream when in REM sleep, which takes a while to get into, but sometimes, it seems to me that I start dreaming right away. Sometimes while in that half awake/half asleep state. I sometimes start to come out of it and realize that my thoughts didn't make any sense. Is that unusual?

It's not unusual if you're sleep deprived. Or have another sleep disorder like narcolepsy.

We have two kinds of dreams, REM and dreams during regular sleep. REM dreams tend to be more scary (and are required for mental health and memory storage) while non-REM dreams tend to be those happy smell the roses dreams. Look up PBS NOVA they had a whole episode on dreaming and its problems.

Usually when I have a vivid dream, I'm having an event so I wake up with the APAP blowing full blast...

I have those drifting off dreams also, sometimes I will mumble like I am talking in the dream. Perhaps the action of a brain desperate for dreams?
