Nasal pillows for long narrow nasal openings?

Post by ZinMe » Fri Jan 06, 2012 1:19 pm

Hi,

I've been using my CPAP with moderate results since getting it a few weeks ago. When I picked it up, the Apria tech recommended small nasal pillows because my nasal openings are narrow, however, they are also long. When I start my CPAP at bedtime, I don't get leaks, but as I shift through the night, I am getting some leaking.

Can anyone recommend some nasal pillow options for this problem?

Thanks,
Dave

Could you comfortably wear the next size up in the nasal pillows? Did they only give you the single Small nasal pillow. The Swift FX is normally supplied with 3 sizes of pillows and your DME should have given you all 3 sizes.

I can't think of any nasal pillow mask model that has inner cones that are "long and narrow slotted". Most will have the oval openings that you see on the Swift FX. Now some of the other nasal pillow masks might have a slight difference in the size of the opening that might be more to your liking.

If you want to experiment with other mask brands there is a mask trial available that won't break your wallet.

My DME didn't give me all 3 but did give me small and medium seeing as it was obvious I would not be a large. As it turned out, I use the small ones. The mediums hurt my nose and I feel as if my nostrils are being pushed out. I tried them although I felt the small pillows would do the trick.

The opus 360 pillows worked better for me. I think that they are more oval than the swift fx. They go up into your nose just a bit more than the swift fx, and for me that helped stop the leaks.
