What is your Spontaneous Arousal Index?

Post by MIKEANDTINA59 » Thu Jan 05, 2012 9:40 am

I would like to find out what spontaneous arousal index others on the list have.

My EEG Summary from my sleep study showed:
Total Spontaneous Arousal: 90
Spontaneous Arousal Index: 14.1/hour

Is this considered mild or moderate? Are these arousals caused by apeans? My AHI's are low - usually under 4 - but I don't feel as well as I would like. Perhaps the arousals are a contributing factor...?

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Tina

Does anyone know if Encore Pro shows the spontaneous Arousal Index?
How about Encore Viewer?

Thanks!

No, neither does because the machines don't/can't know if or when a spontaneous arousal is happening because the machines don't know when you are awake or not.

Closest thing they do collect is on the PR System One full data machines is RERA...Respiratory Event Related arousals. These are shown in SleepyHead, Encore Pro 2.4 and Encore Viewer.
Definition of RERA is per the provider manual..
RERA...Respiratory Event Related Arousal...“ a sequence of breaths characterized by increasing respiratory effort leading to an arousal from sleep, but which does not meet criteria for an apnea or hypopnea.”

There is no way to judge exactly how accurate this data is though since we don't have the real EEG data for looking at sleep data for correlation. I suspect that the data is fairly reliable though. I would only worry if my RERA numbers were extremely high. They aren't in my case.

Mine was 49 per hour during my PSG, and 18.5 at my prescribed pressure during titration.
