How do I compare to "average" person?

Post by SleepyZ » Wed Feb 22, 2006 11:02 pm

Hi guys,
Just got my hands on all the data and charts from the sleep study as well as the perscription. The lady at the DME told me to gaurd the info with my life and only give out copies.

Just a curious question. I have noone to compare this with and I was wondering if you could tell me just how bad off I am. The therapist at the DME showed me that my AHI was 105.9.

Is that how many times I stopped breathing per hour like he explained? If so, that shocked the living daylights out of me!!

Is that about normal or is how does that compare to your "average" apnea patient?

They also showed me that I got absolutley NO REM sleep without the CPAP and told me that they wouldn't be suprised if I even RARELY got any at all!!

Just curious,
Thanks,
Neil

Hi Neil,

Congratulations... you're "above average"

My AHI before treatment was 12.

Sounds like a good thing that you are getting treatment.

Welcome onboard Neil.

Just to clarify AHI is both Apneas (breathing stops) and hypopnias (where breathing is restricted or you are snoring). You do appear to have a lot, but my index was 72.3. The important thing is they found CPAP therapy is effective for you. You are going to have struggles at first, just stick with it. Being able to dream again and stay awake afternoons is well worth it.
