Dental device to prevent bruxism and hold jaw forward...
Can anyone recommend a mouthpiece that prevents bruxism, while holding the jaw in a forward position? Having my jaw pulled back all night by a chinstrap or a FFM is becoming quite the pain, one that is too strong for conventional painkillers!

I'd say that if your jaw pain from the combination of bruxism and the chinstrap/FFM has become "too strong too strong for conventional painkillers!" that it's time to see a specialist in TMJ pain who also knows something about sleep apnea. Because my guess is that you will need a custom made appliance in order for it to help solve your problem.
There are some custom made TMJ appliances that have a "ramp" thingy in the front to provide a place for the back side of the lower front teeth to rest against. It's possible that one of these kinds of appliances might provide enough relief.
Or it could be that you need a device that is more oriented towards treating snoring or mild apnea since those devices really can be set to keep the jaw in a forward position while you sleep with your machine. And there are folks who use both an oral sleep apnea appliance AND a cpap at the same time. The idea is that the combination is sometimes more comfortable (i.e. more tolerable) and/or more effective than either the oral appliance or the cpap would be alone.

Here goes the long expensive battle of finding a specialist. I think I may have better luck getting a RX for oxygen first...

This is my first time I visit here. I found so many enjoyable objects in your blog, above all its discussion.jonnybee wrote:Take a look here:osmium sleeper wrote:Can anyone recommend a mouthpiece that prevents bruxism, while holding the jaw in a forward position? I was diagnosed with bruxism before apnea, my top teeth guard had to be custom made by a dentist. it was necessary to protect the teeth from chipping, scarring on the cheeks and tongue, and purportedly to reduce jaw aches and TMJ stuff (hasnt had much effect on the latter). i suspect it helps me keep my mouth shut at night, helping the CPAP. fortunataly we have a degree of socialised medicine here in Australia, otherwise I probably wouldnt have got it.humanfactors wrote:This link looks like it could have some helpful information: http://sitemaker.umich.edu/widmalm/files/useabusebs.pdf
