increased pressure over time ??

Post by fredouil » Wed Dec 28, 2011 2:19 am

Hi guys, I have a S9 Autoset and I started CPAP this november with a AHI of 77.

when I started the max pressure was always around 11-12 with AHI of 0.9/1.1 but now one month later my max pressure is around 14.5/15.3 with AHI 0.9.

I am fine with it, no issue, just wondering why my pressure is increasing, is it normal ?

Fredouil,

I am very interested also in why pressure would increase over time!

I am almost around your same timeline (started CPAP on 11/09/11) and have been having a similar increase in my pressure toward my max, especially since dealing with a recent cold. I was running along fine with a low AHI from 0.7 - 2. 6 and getting within 1 - 2 cm H2O of my max pressure, but now since the cold, I have averaged 4.85 AHI over a nine day period and have had a couple of single nights at 6.22 AHI and 5.57 AHI.

My titrated pressure range was 11 cmH2O min - 17 cmH2O max and it was working well before. I have now upped everything 1 cmH2O to a new range of 12 cmH2O - 18 cmH2O.
Now the problem seems to be (at least the last couple of nights) the last couple of hours before I wake up I am at my max or near max pressure and having more OA's and CA's. It is really confusing.

It's not the AHI's that bother me as much as the pressure increases. My CPAP machine only goes up to 20 cmH2O.

John

2 B Sleeping, What is your leak rate? Notice when my leak rate is high ( >25L/min) then the pressure is also up, so are AHI's. The higher the leak rate the higher the cm. Is there a correlation in your data?

Have been at this for 20 months and, yes my average cm is higher now than when I started. And dang! Had an appointment with sleep Dr two weeks ago and forgot to ask if this was normal.
Hopefully others will answer this question.
Cindy

Cindy Lou Who,

Here is my leak graph from the night of 12/27/2011 in Sleepyhead:

I'm still new at reading theses but it looks like there might be a correlation like you said.

John

Edit: 12/29/2011 - Last night complete change to more normal numbers, A max leak of 20 and a AHI of 0.99. Woke more rested and with a clearer head. Good but very confusing...
