alternate mask for congested nasal pillow users?

Post by njride » Fri Dec 16, 2011 9:27 am

I've used nasal pillow style masks exclusively forever (ADAM -> Breeze -> ComfortCurve -> Optilife). I have an opportunity to buy a new mask and want to buy an alternate style for those nights when I am congested and could use some mouth breathing. (Ordinarily I automatically keep my mouth closed.) So I am looking for a recommendation that would be a smooth transition from my normal nasal pillow mask in terms of feel on the face.
Thanks.

Hi and Welcome,
People fall back on the Full Face mask during periods of nasal congestion. A nasal mask obviously wouldn't do the job. I use a Quattro and I know others have had good success with that mask.

I would utilize the mask trial and try different ones. Use feedback from other members to narrow your choices maybe but the most important person is you. A mask that one person loves...you may hate.

Ditto what Pugsy said on the mask trial. This is a great place to see if you can tolerate the FFM before you invest in one.

I used the Quattro FX and it was okay, but nothing compares to the comfort of the nasal pillows as far as feeling like there is nothing on your face.

I have and use a ResMed Quattro which works well for me as an alternate to pillows. Fits good without leaks.

That library is a great resource. Who sponsors it?
Anyway, one of the masks they demo is the Resmed Liberty, which seems to be what I was looking for: open face, no eye leaks possible, nasal pillows PLUS mouth. Am I missing something in choosing this over a real full-face model?
EDIT: I just read some of the negative reviews regarding Resmed Liberty leaking, which answers my question.
Oh, well.

Oh, wel
I don't know who sponsors the library. Dane is the guy that comes here about it. I assumed it was his website but I don't know.

Reviews...this is why I say try something yourself and don't base it on what others say. There are a lot of members here that use the Liberty and love and don't have leak issues and love the Liberty.
If that style looks interesting to you...look at the Innomed Hybrid..it is very similar but comes with 3 sizes of oral cushions so a little more experimenting available. Lots of members here use it as well.

I love my nasal pillows and other people try them and absolutely hate them and can't get them to seal no matter what they do. You will find that with every mask out there that some people have horrible problems with them and others have zero problems. You may or may not like the same thing that someone else loves and you may or may not have the same problems that someone else does.

Regarding posting of reviews about any product anywhere I tend to feel that unhappy people are most likely to complain the loudest. It is our nature. When we are happy we go on our merry way and aren't nearly as likely to make the effort to brag on something.
