Taping questions

Post by idahogal » Sun Feb 19, 2006 1:06 pm

Ok, I just finished reading the recent posts on taping your mouth at night. (a spouses dream by the way) I am new to all of this and I would like to know exactly how you tape your mouth shut. Do you go vertical, horizontal? What about coughing at night? I have used a chinstrap for 3 nights now and still seem to mouth breathe but I don't know how much. I don't know if it is significant enough to worry about using tape or not. If you are mouth breathing would the Remstar go off as if you were not wearing a mask at all? If this is the case then it would not be long at all that I mouth breathe. I do wake up when I mouth breathe I just don't know how long I do it. Can someone help?

Hi, Idahogal.
Tape horizontally. Taping works well for me when I use my nasal mask. I usually use a full face mask, though, so I don't have to tape often.

Here's a link to a section about taping in the FAQ ("CPAP FAQ") section of this site.
cpaptalk-faq.php?FCID=30#30

I use waterproof medical tape (Johnson and Johnson). 1/2"(?) or 1"(?)width and I use two pieces horizontally. Sometimes I slip out of it during the night, so I'm sure that if you coughed or really needed to mouth-breathe you'd be able to.

Hang in there.

Most important of all: fold in a small tab at both ends of the tape - that makes taking it off a cinch.

Great, Thanks for the tips and information. I will try tonight to tape and see how it goes. Thanks again.
