PR REMstar question

Post by 67tony » Wed Dec 07, 2011 8:01 pm

For the most part I am getting used to, and like, my Phillips Respironics REMstar Auto A-Flex.

Recently, however, the auto-start and auto-off functions have stopped working. It's not a huge deal, but I am wondering if there is a reason, or a quick fix. Maybe like a reset, or a "back to default", or something like that.

I don't want to lose any data, but since my DMP is a ways away I thought I'd ask here first.

Have you been in the clinical settings menu and changed things? or did they stop all on their own?

Did anything change to make them stop working--i.e. did you or your DME make changes to the settings? If not, you can go into the clinician's menu and see if they are enabled or not. If you don't know how to do that, please post a separate request for the clinician's manual and someone will pm you with instructions on how to get it.

If nothing has changed and they are enabled, my personal observation is that the auto-start is wonky (I don't use the auto stop because some people have reported their machines turn off with large leaks during the night). My auto-start works sometimes, not consistently. I think it has to do with the seal and detecting the first breaths. It did work better when I used nasal pillows--the FF mask is kind of leaky, especially at first until I get it in just the right position, and I think that interferes with autostart.

For me it's not a big deal because the machine is within easy reach, but I know this is a PITA for some.

I have the same series but mine is C-Flex and I have never been able to get the auto on/off to work.

with a FF mask put your finger over the anti-asphaxiation valve exhaust while breathing to see if you get auto on to work that way

sometimes I have to do that with my nasal masks too with the PR1 machine

Auto start isn't supposed to work with full face masks. With the machine off, if you inhale or exhale, the air will come through the anti-asphyxia vent instead of the machine.

my understanding is that if you have a FF mask selected on a Resmed machine then auto on won't work

I have no mask selection on my PR1 -- auto on should work with a FFM with the trick however I have only used a FFM one night with this machine

the trick I mentioned above in my other post worked fine on my "tank"

Ah-ha...this makes a lot of sense. I'll do some troubleshooting and experimenting this evening.

Thanks for all the replies, this site is very helpful to us noobies!

I have a PR System One auto cpap and auto start works fine with a full face mask. Two or three breaths and it starts right up.

My old RemStar M Series Pro auto start also worked fine with with my full face mask but then stopped working and shortly after quit recording data.
