My CPAP Story

Post by cpaptex » Mon Nov 21, 2011 8:18 am

I've been reviewing with Sleepyhead my CPAP results and I see Cheyne-Stokes events and ClearAirway Events on a regular basis in addition to the Obstructed Airway Events. Not everyday, but frequently. Is this normal? I have Interstitial Lung Disease.

I'm getting better day by day. Few if any OA Events, mostly CAs and Hyponeas.

On occasion I have seen some CSR flagged breathing on my reports but when I look at the actual flow zoomed in up close it doesn't really look like classic CSR and even if it did it is sporadic and rather short lived so I ignore it. I don't have any other health issues.

If a relatively short period of time then I wouldn't worry about it. If prolonged time and often though, might look close to see if it is really CSR pattern and check with your doctor to see if there is enough of it to be a problem. Just for peace of mind if nothing else.

Scroll down to last post on this page by Ozij to see what true CSR breaths look like.

There can be what appears to be CSR as a settling period after an arousal. That's normal and I believe what Pugsy is talking about.

If it goes on for 10 minutes or more, then it would be categorized as Cheyne-Stokes. Even if you don't have a complete cessation of breathing and it's still the waxing and waning pattern that cycles every 30-45 seconds. Then it's Cheyne-Stokes little brother Periodic Breathing. Let your doc know even if it goes on for over 5 minutes just to be on the safe side.

Did you get it figured out? If not, you can either right click mouse on image and copy the image and save it to your computer or you can make your own screen shot of the image and save it to your computer.

Here at the forum? No, we can't do attachments. If you are wanting to upload report images I use screen shots and here is how I do it.

Open the image to full size so it is easily read.
I use Vista snipping tool to create a screen shot and crop the image at the same time.
Prt/scr key will also take a screen shot if using XP. If laptop is used sometimes the Fn key has to be pushed at the same time as the prt/scr key
I think windows 7 Home Premium has the snipping tool, Basic may not.
Once the screen shot is created save it in jpg format.
Upload the image to a host site. I use Photobucket it is free, there are others.
Once the image is uploaded then copy the ENTIRE IMG address. Be sure to include the opening and closing IMG in brackets. Paste that copied address into a post here.
Use the preview button. If you can't see the image try again because if you can't see it we can't.

If someone uses Photobucket for hosting images then choose the bottom line in the little box with all the addresses. Put mouse pointer over that line, click, it will say "copied"...open forum message window, right click mouse and choose "paste"....the entire image location will show in your post including the IMG brackets so no need to use the Img or URL address from forum editor.

If using some other host site you may have to copy the url address of the image, then click on the Img button on the forum and insert the address between the Img boxes.

You will only see the address until you click either preview to check image or submit to post image.
You won't see the image immediately...some people get confused here thinking that that will but they won't see the image straight away.

You need to place the address between the Img brackets and you get this.

Always best to talk over your concerns with your doc..

Mine looks like this, and I've now had two doctors tell me not to worry about it.
Image

This one in 4 days after Appendix surgery, so the little bit of Oxicodone still in my system (or a residual infection), could of been causing it. But I have had quite a few nights like this before and since though.
Also, I'm rather overweight (100kg @ 178cm), so that can play havoc too.
I have had two rather unpleasant bouts of AF in the last couple of weeks (one requiring a zap to put right).

Btw, in your pic, there are PB/CSR events in the Event List, without the green flagging or highlighting behind the flow waveform. looks like a bug.
It's not affecting the selection, so it's probably just a display glitch. :/

Now that I know that questions concerning my own issues should all go into one thread....

I want to know if it's reasonable to expect o2 Sats to go up while on CPAP. I desaturate at night and a new oximeter study that I did shows fewer overall events happening, but my overall level did not change. 100% of the time I am below 95% and my average level of 91.2 did not change with the CPAP. Even the duration of my most severe event did not change 83 for 16 seconds.

I was hoping to see a significant rise of x% between 100-95% the actual result was 0, just like it was before. I have ILD and my DLCO is in the low 50's.

The main result of the CPAP seems to be that most of the events are in the 90-95 range.

cpaptex, cpap can get the air through your airway and to your lungs, but it doesn't do anything to improve the lung function of transporting oxygen to the bloodstream.

Lizistired, I think that I've resigned my self to the fact that a CPAP can just deal with Apneas and that's a good thing. Now I just need to talk to my Pulmonologist and see if o2 at night is a good option. I don't want to wait until I get worse to make that decision. For now, my Pulmonary Fibrosis doesn't appear to be very active for the moment. I got alot of things to think about. One is buying a Overnight Oximeter and to keep the data.
