New Guys first night

Post by GLC » Thu Feb 16, 2006 9:43 am

I posted once under "New Guy Suggestions". I received my equipment yesterday. Overall everything went fairly well better than I expected. LINDA3032 had given me a heads up on the pressures. The machine was set at 2cm-20cm (BiPaP Auto with Bi-Flex & HH) I tried it this way for about 5 seconds, if it were Helium instead of O2 I would still be soaring. I got into the Provider Mode an lowered the high end pressure to 10cm and set the machine to the therapy mode, ABFLE. Things settled down quite a bit then. I slept for a three hour and then four hour span (bathroom breaks). Mask seem to loosen and needed adjustment (Ultra Mirage FF) but over was fairly confortable. The mask wanted to leak if I slept on my side though (around my bridge of nose). Any fixes to this? Also what does everyone do when they go to the bathroom? I just took off the mask and laid it down. Should I put in Stand-by. Also I could not get the machine to Auto-On. I read in the manual to set the Patient Disconnect to 0 or disable the Auto-Off. This is where the machine was set on arrival. I tried to activate Auto-On by putting mask and breathing for 5-10 times nothing happen the machine was in the stand-by mode but did not do anything. Then I se the Patient Disconnect to 1 which activates Auto Disconnect and Patient Alert Alarm, this worked. I would like the Auto-On feature to function any suggestions? Also, the Auto Disconnect without the alarm (don't want to wake my Wife) but the way I read the manual it either or not both. Thanks for any help[/b]

I usually just moved my Ultra Mirage FF mask up or down until it quit. I also noticed that I could affect this by changing the relative tightening of the upper straps vs the lower straps. It sounds funny but the mask kinda pivots on the face, or at least mine did.

I just turn mine OFF when I get up. Never occurred to me there'd be any other way to handle it. As to the Auto-ON, I never experienced it with the Ultra Mirage FF Mask, but the Auto-ON worked immediately when I first put on the Ultra Mirage nasal mask. It surprised me! Actually, the Auto-ON has been more of a nuisance than anything, so far. Auto-ON may not work well, or maybe not all, with FF masks.

Congratulations New Guy. Hope this helps.

Regards,
Bill

I have the same machine and also turn mine off during "pit stops". The Ultra Mirage FF mask is the only mask I own (and I have many) that the machine will not auto start all the others work. I have never been able to figure out why.

I use the Ultra Mirage FF too - I breathe in and out real exaggerated about three times and then the auto on works for me.

I turn mine off when I get up.
That way I get another indication of the quality of my sleep the "tnps" which I just made up.... stands for "total nightly pit stops".

Nocturia, the medical term for the problem, is another symptom caused by sleep apnea, and it does make sense to record it.

Though I must say that after 10 months of therapy, my weekly index of the said measure is probably less than one!
