Great follow up...

Post by kaiya2465 » Sat Nov 19, 2011 12:23 pm

Just an update on my follow-up=== I learned more Thursday from a CNP (LeAnna) than I ever did from the idiot sleep doctors around here. From what I understand now, I am doing things right, it's just that I had nobody that was listening to me that was close by on the little issues, which became big ones w/o help. She asked me to give her 18 months, so I agreed. She wants me to call her if I feel that I am not getting enough or to much pressure, if my mask starts leaking, which so far is working great. She also told me for now not to worry how long I wear the mask it is just she wants me to try every night. I did only get 1 hr last night, & this might seem strange but I swear it was the best hr I have had since starting cpap therapy. I did have to turn up the humidity to 4.5 & it seemed to keep me unstuffed. She did let me know that I am only getting into stages 1&2 for sleep, so we are working on that. She has me taking 18mg of melatonin before bed.

She told me that this is my starting point & the last 2 yrs don't even count now. So here is to a fresh start with cpap therapy no excuses now.....I am getting with the program... Any thoughts?

Thanks

Hi Kaiya,
Too bad you didn't run into her awhile back. I was married to a Nurse Practitioner and I really respect their patient oriented perspective. I see she is easing you into it. Conventional approaches currently have a 50% failure rate so I feel there's room for a more creative approach. Good luck and hang in there.

My regular provider at the VA is a NP, she is fantastic. I wish the docs could be the same, the nursing background leads to better care for the person and yet IMO they are just as knowledgable as doctors about the body, illness and diagnostics.

Good for you, keep up the good work!
Thinking of quitting CPAP?

No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:

Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Thanks I am sure learning who knows what in this area finally. I know things are not going to be perfect & I will run into a few bumps along the way. I am just at a peaceful point with LeAnna (CNP). So now I need to patient with myself & the therapy. It's not gonna happen over night.

Thank you Clare74. I think my attitude has gotten better in part to finding someone close that actually listens & also gives input back...There for a while I was getting a bad attitude towards myself & the machine,(and do I dare say a little envious) of those who were successful on the xpap. But now I have forgiven myself & am moving forward.......... Thanks to all the ones that listened to me whine there for awhile.
