Re: After three months still can't sleep comfortably
Bed pillow needs and preferences are high individual just like mask preferences. What works for one may not work for another or may work for another. I use a buckwheat hull pillow and it allows me to move the hulls around to make a little nest for the mask. Others use the CPAP pillow with the cut out for the mask to rest with equal success.
Others use a memory foam pillow and put their head at the edge of the pillow so the mask is sort of off the pillow.
You can make your own cpap pillow with the cut out by buying a cheap memory foam pillow at Walmart and cutting out the spot for the mask. If it seems to work okay...use it or buy the more expensive fancy version.
I notice you are using a Resmed S9 Escape. I just wanted to point out that it offers zero data to help you should you ever want to evaluate your therapy. That little SD card in the back only gathers how many hours you use the machine so the DME can satisfy any insurance requirements.
You might want to read this which explains why we want data and what to do when your machine doesn't offer full data. Scroll down a bit till you see "what to do when you realize that your machine is a brick" http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/

I am a side sleeper and have had great success using a memory foam neck pillow under a Sobakawa cloud (small pillow) and I sleep on the edge of both. I got the Sobakawa at Bed Bath and Beyond. I think I got the memory foam neck pillow for side sleepers at Sleep Number Store. It looks like this, but I didn't get it from this store...http://vitalityweb.com/backstore/memorylite.htm

Re: After three months still can't sleep comfortably
Are you having trouble getting comfortable so your mask doesn't leak? I am very new to this but that is the problem I was having with a very similar mask. Someone on here advised me to go to padacheek.com and try a mask liner and anti leak strap. I bought both and tried them for the first time last night. I couldn't get the leaks to stop with both so I didn't use the liner I only used the strap. I slept over 4 hours without a leak. It was the longest I have slept with the machine in the month or so that I have had it. I was getting very discouraged and ready to give up until last night. I am a side sleeper and didn't have any trouble sleeping on my side last night. When it did leak I slipped it off for a few minutes and wiped my face off, put the mask back on, and slept a couple more hours. It was only my first night with it but I am confident it will work for me. Maybe it can help you?
Re: After three months still can't sleep comfortably
I'm a side sleeper as well. I've only been on cpap for three weeks, but am slowly figuring out how to sleep comfortably.
First thing that really helped was getting a liner. I got mine from a popular supplier, but I'm sure a homemde one would work well too. It made my mask so much less sensitive to leaks, which is what would happen when my head was sideways on the pillow. With that, and a very soft pillow, I can actually sleep on my side and just let the mask kind of nestle into the softness of the pillow without it moving too much.
Hang in there. You'll eventually be able to adapt and get to a place that feels more natural. Just keep tweaking and experimenting and you'll get it.

For another suggestion, google 'buckwheat pillow'.
I use a buckwheat on top of my regular pillow. What I like is that I can move the hulks around in a way that allows my head to get into a comfortable position, plus I push some of the hulks away and create a depression for the mask to set in so that it's not pushed away when my head relaxes and settles on the pillow as I sleep.
You can also add/remove hulks as you wish to make the pillow thicker or thinner.
I got the dual 'buckwheat/millet' pillow that has two sides with each side filled with one type. I removed hulks from one side to make it thinner (maybe 2" thick), and as I said, I put it on top of a regular Serta pillow.

Thinking of quitting CPAP?
No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:
Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Re: After three months still can't sleep comfortably
Thank you so much to all the persons that posted advice regarding my unconfortable sleep. After I posted this morning, I did the foam pillow cut out . I'll try it tonight and see what happens Thanks again to all.
