trying new mask, should I change my machine?
trying new mask, should I change my machine?
Hello all, Thanks to a member here, I have a hybrid mask to try out! I have used the Mirage quattro for 1 1/2 years, with an auto machine. My flow rate is typically high, with a median pressure of 18.5. I have my machine set for 17 to 20 right now. With a new mask, will my pressure needs change? Just wondering if anyone has any input into this. Thanks

In theory, no.

Agree with SleepingUgly. Shouldn't make a difference.

The previous posters are right: in theory, no. However, in my case, with the Mirage Quattro I needed higher pressures to address my snoring. Do you snore?detcord wrote:Hello all, Thanks to a member here, I have a hybrid mask to try out! I have used the Mirage quattro for 1 1/2 years, with an auto machine. You may find that the hybrid mask is more efficient since it has the pillows and might do the job w/less pressure. Since you are using apap, you might see that pressure does not go up to 19 or 20 but stays in the lower part of your range. If your original titrated pressure from your sleep study was less than 17, you might be able to use lower pressure and still get good therapy.
This can be evaluated through data.

Hi.....you should wear the mask that fits the best and does the best job for you....the pressure seems quite high....is your mouth opening at night while sleeping? are you losing air? have you been told when you did your sleep study that your mouth drops open during sleep? do you feel the air pressure...is it uncomfortable? is your mouth dry in the morning? if so, please try a chin strap, particularly the ultimate chin strap for sleep apnea...my husband uses this one and it works the best...his pressure was so high before the chin strap that it was so incomfortable and loud and dizzying....it can be found on line...he has tried at least five different chin straps but the ultimate chin straps works! Good Luck to You!
