Cleaning the H5i resevior

Post by Naznarreb » Sun Oct 30, 2011 1:28 am

Did a search on the site an didn't see anything like this so I thought I'd share. I have a ResMed S9 with the H5i humidifier. The bottom of the humidifier had developed a scunge of some kind and I needed a way to clean it, so I used a trick I learned to clean coffee pots several years ago:

I dumped in a ton salt, maybe a 1/2 cup or so and a just enough water to make a slurry then shook it back and forth. The salt is abrasive and scoured whatever was on the bottom right off. Rinsed very thoroughly in hot water for about 5 mins to get all the salt out and it's looking pretty good!

Hope someone finds this useful.

Any other tips on cleaning the humidifier?

Any other tips on cleaning the humidifier?

Solution of one part vinegar to ten parts water. The cleanable water chamber can be taken apart and easier to clean .(someone posted a youtube video how to open the water chamber)

I recently bought the "cleanable" resevoir, which has the removable top. Mostly I've been able to clean it with a sponge, but a few times I used the vinegar trick and it worked great. I use bottled water, though not distilled, so that maybe the source of the minerals.

If you don't already realize it, even the uncleanable reservoir can be opened with a little effort. Search youtube for a video on how to do it.

You can achieve the same result with a lot less mess by using uncooked rice grains

Cheers,

Bill
