Intellipap , clearing rainout gurgling noise

Post by peterg » Sun Oct 23, 2011 8:10 pm

posting a solution.
when I was on Remstar M Series I would get the gurgling (I call it the Bong) sound in the tube, I would raise and shake the hose and that would get rid of the water in the hose down into the macine , for a while. this tecnique didnt work for me with the Intellipap, perhaps because the M Series had the air outlet horizontally and the Intellipaps is coming up vertically.

so what I do is take a deep breath, put my hand over the mask to (JUST FOR A SECOND) stop the air blowing out, and blow once . Tthat seems to force the water back down into the machine. it's quite easy to do and, so far effective. though with Antipodean summer coming up, it remains to be seen how much rainout I will experience in the subtropical humidity, though Ill have the advantage of not needing much heating in the humidifer.

Be sure you machine is sitting lower than your head level, and if you have a headboard, you can snake the hose up and over that to help the condensation roll back down into the humidifier. I have a rather high headboard and use a 10' hose to allow for this set up and still be able to move around in bed. Some folks use a hose caddy that either is free standing or the kind that works with a pully system and is attached to the wall over the bed. I believe that kind is available at pursleep.com.

I live in FL and the humidity here is very high during the summer. I imagine for folks in the desert Southwest, they would say FL is humid all year round ...., but I only turn the humidifier on in the late fall and through the winter.

yes, it is higher and the unit is under the bed.
the main point I made was that the raise'n'shake tecnique doesnt work on the Intellipap. I need to cover'n'blow.

Ill experiment later with tube covers and lower humidity settings (off in summer, as you say, might even be nice'n'cool).

Well, as an Intellipap user, I have never had any rainout at all. I've kept my hose up and over the headboard and have it covered with a soft fleece cozy.

The gurgling in my hose is terrible. The rainout is bad too. I have to have quite a bit of humidity because of all my sinus surgeries. We keep our room super cold, so it just seriously condensates. The machine is on the floor and hose draped over the headboard. I take the hose off and shake out the moisture, but that entails turning on the light and lots of tugging to get the hose off.

I've read that the Aussie (Sleepzone) hose will work with the Intellipap. It is a heated hose that should resolve all that condensation. I believe you have to order it from Australia, but it should do the trick! If you aren't using a hose fleece cozy cover, try that first. It helps to keep the hose warm.

have you tried my cover mask and blow back down the hose trick?. Ill modify it to let some air back through before breathing, otherwise you are re-breathing stale air for that first breath.

also, on this forum was the reptile heat coils, which I imagine could slip between a tube and its cloth wrap cover.

You can get them at cpapusa.com too. I have not ordered from them as I went with the reptile heater for mine.
