The Dog Ate My What???

Post by NightHawkeye » Sat Feb 11, 2006 12:38 pm

Anybody else have their dog eat their CPAP.com package?

I came home yesterday to discover that my daughter's labrador retriever had dismembered and disemboweled my CPAP.com package with the new Swift nasal pillows and new Ultra Mirage nasal mask. My wife had been indisposed at the time the package was delivered and some minutes later, by the time she got outside, the dog had had a fine time with the package; not only was everything thrown out and the box torn into little pieces, the plastic bags containing the interfaces were also ripped open and their contents thrown about as well.

Normally, the two year old lab is a docile animal, but she loves to sling things about with the same ferocity that a crocodile, for instance, spins its prey. I'm sure that the two inch thick box, which appeared from the pieces to have been maybe 18 inches in length earlier in the day, was just too tempting to resist.

My wife picked up all the pieces and had them displayed on the counter when I got home. Amazingly, other than some grass on the Ultra Mirage and water and dirt on every piece of paper and manuals, no real damage was done. The Swift nasal pillows were still safe and sound in their zippered container which, for some unknown reason, the dog had not attempted to open or dismember.

I guess you could even say the dog saved me the trouble of having to open the packages. I did have to wash the Ultra Mirage, but I'd have done that anyway.

I even got a bonus with the Ultra Mirage; ordered the standard cushion, but they sent both the standard and shallow wide (along with a note saying that my order had been upgraded because they hadn't had exactly what I'd ordered in stock). The shallow wide seems a bit of a misnomer though as it is about a half inch deeper than the standard. Since I've got a big nose (but not wide), and since the standard seemed a bit tight last night, I'm even considering trying out the other one.

Regards,
Bill

Sounds like the dog had a really good time! Kind of like a kid on Christmas morning tearing open a present from Santa. I've been so careful not to leave anything laying around, especially anything with my Cpap stuff. My new puppy thinks anything is fair game including chewing on the cat's tail.

Me too! My CPAP stuff is all (and I mean everything) stashed in drawers until the dog is put away for the night and then gets put away again in the morning before the dog comes out.

Yep, just judging from the condition of what's left of the box, she had a great time. Good luck with that puppy, Bonnie.

Bill

Had the same problem with my dog until I stopped my son from wrapping his homework around my masks

My equipment has been safe so far but a few years ago one of my sweet little girls ate my hearing aids. My $800.00 bulldog quickly turned into a $6,000.00 pup. Needless to say she gets the best of care being she is worth so much.

My pup (current avatar) is too small to jump up onto our tall bed where my mask rests on my pillow awaiting my return to the Land of Nod. If he could jump that high I'd be in trouble!

Update

Post by NightHawkeye » Mon Feb 13, 2006 11:42 am

Can't compete with the $6000 hearing aid story, Bulldog, but . . .

My daughter's labrador retriever evidently decided that, having had a taste of CPAP equipment on Friday, she wanted more. Last night she pulled the heated hose out of the Respironics case into which I have been stuffing it during the day and starting dragging it around. (Now, I sure thought I had that put away properly, but had only been zippering the flap 3/4 of the way around as that last bend is difficult to navigate.)

So the dog drug the hose completely out of the case and I can clearly visualize her slinging it about in a wild back and forth manner. Fortunately, my daughter caught her and took the heated hose away before any real damage was done.

Regards,
Bill (thinking I dodged the bullet again)
