i am a newby

Post by kjay » Fri Feb 10, 2006 10:47 am

Hello fellow cpap friends--
I used my new cpap last night(my family named him Papi). It was so weird to have that mask on me last but I think I am more rested. Is there any advice about anything that you can give me. Thanks Kjay

Hi and Welcome!

Give us information on mask, machine, and pressure setting so we can give you more specific advice.

Be Pro-active: if you need a different mask, Tell don't Ask DME. Same for pressure setting, etc.

Don't expect overnight miracles: You've probably had sleep apnea for awhile, expect it to take some time to adjust to the therapy.

Don't give up easily if you hit a bump in the road: It's your LIFE and well-being at stake here. Post questions, problems. This is a great group of people more than willing to help out.

When I woke up this morning my girlfriend asked me, 'Did you sleep well?' I said 'No, I made a few mistakes.' Steven Wright

If your machine uses software effectally, get it so you can monitor your progess. Fill in your profile so new people can see what you are working with. All the info you need is on these pages, read all you can and don't be afraid to ask questions.

It really does take time to notice anything. It may save your life also. Don't give up.

Use it when you nap even.

Does your mask work well? I used several masks and found the Activa works best for me. I might try a pillow system later, but right now I have no leaks. These leaks may wake you up at night.

Always take it with you when you travel. It is not problem checking it in with your baggage on plane trips.

Also if you discover that you are getting rainout (condensation in the hose or mask) consider purchasing an Aussie heated hose. It will let you turn up the humidity which is good for some people, without getting rainout.
