Help! Which Pillow Mask Should I Get?

Post by Komodo » Wed Oct 12, 2011 9:19 am

I'm currently haveing some serious problems with my teeth.
My dentist says there's a SLIGHT CHANCE that my nasal mask, might be contributing to the problems. (by pressing on my upper front teeth)

I've decided to try using a nasal PILLOW mask, and could use some help deciding which one to try.
I've only ever seen pictures of pillow masks, and a couple of them LOOK like they don't press up against your upper teeth as much as against your nostrils???

So far, without any knowledge, I like what the Swift FX looks like.
I could REALLY use some help deciding which one would be the better choice to start with.

Thanks in advance

I have used only the Swift Fx for her for about 3 months now. It does put pressure on my upper teeth if I have it adjusted too tight. The outer pillow inflates and does press on the area between my nares and upper lip. Anatomy is different for everyone though. When I learned to wear it looser and trust it, I was less sore. I still have some days where teeth are sore.

I have the Swift fx and the lt. The swift lt pillows have a pivot adjustment so that might help.

What works for some doesn't work well for others, really need to try a few out. Some folks swear by the Headrest but company is dead [for now]. I have tried Headrest, LT and Fx, and only the first two worked for me.

That LT sounds good, BUT, the hose going over my head would drive me COMPLETELY nuts!

I think you have it confused with another mask. The hose does not go over your head. You do have the option of using a hose clipt to make it go straight up. I have never used it on the LT.

Try it over the head, it's actually very comfortable and easy to 'manage'

Do I
I clicked on the link in your equiptment profile for the LT, and it brought me to this https://www.cpap.com/productpage/2871 which shows the hose going over the head.

Is there a swivel where the hose connects so I can move it around?

I have both the Swift LT and FX - both go over your head, however the LT, IMHO, is more comfy over my head than the FX (which is more floppy (for want of a better description)).

It does take getting some used to, but I found that routing it over my head (LT) and securing in the clip provided with the headgear, I can loosen the mask quite a bit, THEN adjust the tension of the hose in the clip. Once I do that, I hardly know the mask is on my face (weird, but true).

I swap constantly between the FX and the LT and when I get new pillows, my DME is happy to give me one of each, even though I didn't get the FX from them.

Cheers,
xena

The Swift LT was my first mask when I started CPAP therapy. It can be attached to the top to go over your head if you wish but it doesn't have to. It is a simple little plastic clip. Don't have to use it. I didn't like it and used the LT hanging loose for a year or so till the Swift FX came out.

The Swift LT may show pictures of it being routed over the head but one doesn't have to do that if they don't want to.
Just don't use that top clip.

Either mask can be routed over the head or either mask can just be used hanging down.

Thank You Pugsy!

I'm going to give the FX a try and see what happens.

Thanks to ALL for your help!

I use a nasal pillow and I really like it. I felt like it was too precarious at first, but I would check the machine and it said the fit was right. It took a while to get the straps adjusted so it was comfortable, and I still have some adjustment to do. I woke up one morning with my nose really sore. It felt like it had been shoved up into my forehead all night. This morning I woke with my front teeth being sore. But with all that, I have gone from an AHI of 29 to an average of .7. And I have started to feel relaxed when I wake up in the morning. It used to be that once I woke, I was awake. I never felt sleepy, just deadly tired. Now I have to get moving right away because I am sleepy and relaxed when I wake up. I tried a nasal mask, the mirage I think, but it never fit as well as the pillow. Yay for sleep!!
