What would you do? cpap needed by friends!

Post by needingu » Tue Oct 11, 2011 1:10 pm

I have a couple friends who have apnea (husband and wife) and in need of a machine but cannot afford one. Does anyone know of an avenue to follow to obtain one. I have been on one for 6 years and know the importance of using one NOW and not wait until heart, stroke or other chronic illnesses start.

Nothing makes the heart feel better than to donate something to someone who is in need. Do them and yourself a favor if you have a reconditioned or workable one, please consider..
God Bless
Thanks

Curious. Have they been to a sleep lab? Do they have a prescription? A Titration setting?

Else you want a full data machine with auto.

I'm a little worried about the risks of trying to self diagnose and treat apenea without professional medical involvement. You could end up not getting effective treatment or missing a serious medical condition that you only thought was apnea.

Even "auto" CPAP machines are not simply "plug and play" appliances.

However, in terms of getting hold of a CPAP machine, if you watch Craigslist for a while, you may be able to come up with a good machine really cheap. You may have to watch for a month or two. You will see a lot of people trying to sell really old and obsolete machines at higher than new prices.

Getting the right mask in the right size is a harder question. There are some online retailers who sell masks without a prescription. Some of them give you an exchange option for a fee.
