Does type of interface affect aerophagia?

Post by SleepingUgly » Fri Oct 07, 2011 12:09 pm

Did anyone who suffered/suffers from aerophagia find that type of mask worsens or improves aerophagia? I am wondering whether nasal pillows worsen aerophagia relative to nasal masks.

Maybe everyone suffers and it doesn't matter between mask types? I think it has more to do with the pressure, but I can say that I don't find much difference between Swift FX nasal pillow and Quattro FX FFM - I get about the same amount of air in my gut from both of them (tolerable it is, at least).

I agree that the pressure has a bigger role. But sometimes I've wondered whether it's worsened by pillows.

I never have had any problem with aerophagia using the nasal pillows.

Now I did trial the Hybrid for about 3 nights early on in my therapy. That was a total aerophagia disaster. I was physically ill from all the air I swallowed all 3 nights. I ended up giving the mask away. Never wanted to try it again.

I have never used anything but nasal pillow mask since then. No aerophagia at all except for the night not too long ago that I turned AFlex off. Leaks and increased pressure to 20 for over half the night and I was bloated up something awful though not as sick as I was when I tried the Hybrid.
