Bed Pillows

Post by Tim1956 » Wed Oct 05, 2011 3:31 pm

I could sure use some advice on bed pillows. Here lately I've been turning on my side during the night while I'm asleep. Normally I'm a back sleeper but sometimes I like to lay on my side. The regular pillows I use just take the hose connection right off the masks I've been wearing. (Quattro FX and also my Mirage Quattro) worse on the later. I've been looking at cpap bed pillows online but the main question is. I like a cool pillow. I don't think I could turn one of these over to get the cool side. Any Ideas? I just bought one of those cloud pillows. (Cant spell the name of it, with all the "cool air beads that are suppose to work like seen on TV) Yea right . Suggestions will be appreciated very much. thanks.

I think the buckwheat hull pillows stay cool. Some members have them and like them.
I have a Sobakawa Cloud pillow that I like very much. It is on the small side. They may have larger ones out there. I purchased mine at Bed Bath and Beyond.

The Sobakawa Cloud Pillow is what I just bought. It is small. Not near as cool as They advertise. Think my better half may love it. Maybe I'll try the buckwheat hulls. Just wonder how firm and comfy they are.

I have a Malouf Z Dough and it works great with the Quattro/FX. If you normally sleep with multiple pillows stacked, the 'high loft firm' version is perfect. You don't need fancy cut outs for CPAP, truth is they don't work all that great. You just need support so your head doesn't sink into the pillow completely, while still leaving it comfortable to rest your head on.

I use a queen sized buckwheat pillow I purchased from an ebay vendor. It's cool and easily molded to meet my needs.

I use a firm memory foam pillow that I bought at Macy's. I like it a lot b/c it also supports my neck.

I hear the buckwheat is firm and you can adjust to your liking by removing or adding hulls.

I have a buckwheat pillow and use it every night.

Back when I was using normal bed pillows, I could never find one that was the right height, and I was doubling them up, which made them too high. So then I stacked one over my arm (when side sleeping) which worked, but got uncomfortable after a while (especially for the arm). So I'd toss and turn a fair bit due to sore neck. All the tossing and turning helped to shift the mask around causing leaks, so all together it wasn't fun.

I am much happier with the buckwheat pillow. Even when it came it had a fair bit of room in it so I haven't removed any hulls. To get a pillow shape and height I like I just push the hulls around with my hand, test and adjust a few times. I can even adjust the contours so my head is lying at just the right angle etc. So, pillow issues are basically history.

I am not the person to ask about whether they're hot. My wife has always liked the AC set much colder then I do. Apparently I can just put on extra layers of clothes. Lately she's been having hot flushes, so I get to wear my "eskimo" jacket to bed in the middle of summer in Houston!

I'll say "ditto" to JoinPain's post - I bought this from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0037NX61M
Before, I had problems with the regular bed pillow interfering with the hose, not supporting my head, etc.
Now with the buckwheat hull pillow, I can "mold" it to whatever shape I need, and it pretty much stays that way.
I am not a back sleeper - definitely a side sleeper (and formally a belly sleeper, but not any more). The buckwheat pillow can be adjusted to however I need it to be at the time. It's magic.

Here's a picture of the one that I use. http://www.pur-sleep.com/products/produ ... ategory=14. You have a choice of two sizes. The buckwheat is in a plastic package . The pillow cover comes empty. You can fill it with the buckwheat and try it until it is the correct size. With a little
experimenting you won't have a sore neck. You can position the pillow so that sleeping on your side is no problem. They give you a 15 day unconditional
warranty. Which gives you a chance to try it. The XL fits into a queen size pillow case.
Hope that this helps.

I normally use a thin pillow, and have not had any problems. I did sleep with one of the extra fluffy pillows that we have, and I too had the issue of the hose being knocked off.
