Morning allergies and nasal masks.

Post by yawnny » Tue Oct 04, 2011 3:01 pm

I have multiple allergies to several allergens. For some reason, the allergies are worse in the morning than in the evening.

On several occasions, I might need to rise early to use bathroom, answer phone or whatever, with the intention on going back to sleep until actual wake up time. Often by the time I got back to bed and strapped the mask back on, the snot machine in my nose was in full gear, interfering with air getting thru my nasal passages and ruining the rest of my sleep.

I discovered a strange cure that works for me most of the time. If you don't breathe thru your nose until you are back in bed with the nasal mask on, the snot machine does not kick in and your nasal passages stay clear, allowing the CPAP to work. Of course this depends on you remembering to not breathe thru your nose while ripping your mask off in preparation for a run to the bathroom

I'm probably the only one that experiences this, so feel free to ignore the above post.
