Small nose

Post by HB » Sat Oct 01, 2011 5:14 pm

I have a small nose and features on my face. I looking at the new RESMED Mirage FX, looks nice but only comes in standard and wide. I think I need a small mask. Not sure if I should try it, it will probably go from my lip all the way close to my eye (too big for my face). This is my first mask. The Mirage Micro comes in a small, but that FX looks kinda cool. I want an FX in a small....I guess. Should I gamble? Any small nose advice?

I just started this CPAP thing. I know Apria tries to give you their cheapest stuff that they make the most money off of, so I just don't trust them fully. Gosh, there are just sooo many many nose masks w RESMED: Mirage Micro, Swift LT, Ultra, Ultra II, SoftGel and FX. The last 2 nights, I'm on the Swift LT for her in an XS nose pillow. Which feels strange. I do side and back sleep so maybe it was a good idea. But, at the study I really liked the "Nasal" mask. I'm just not sure if I should go Mirage Micro Small or Mirage FX (which only comes in standard). Such a gamble, FX sounds cool, but Micro....comes in small (which might be better (for me). ANY SMALL NOSERS KNOW? Thanks!

I am a lady with small facial features and I wear Swift FX for her with XS pillows. Great fit for me. It is the only mask I have used. I am a 2 month newbie.
I really like the Swift FX nasal pillows. I do have to wear a chin strap or tape mouth. I am not a mouth breather but my mouth does come open when I am sleeping deeply.

I believe the original poster is referring to the Mirage FX, not the Swift FX.
Nice of ResMed to give the same name to 3 different masks!
Mirage FX is a very new mask--anybody try it?
I know the return insurance for it at cpap.com is under $15;
so that might mean they haven't had as many fitting failures as a lot of other masks.
I might try it myself if I can get my yap to stay shut.

apneawho, You sound a lot like me. I also have very small facial features. The only mask I could find that sealed well after trying on nearly every one the DME and the sleep lab carried was the Zest nasal. Even that seemed on the large side. I'm just too 'short' from my forehead to my mouth. After a couple of months I switched to the Swift FX for Her with the XS pillows. I've been very happy with that mask for the last year.

You might try some of the pediatric masks. If the Swift hadn't worked for me I was being steered in that direction next.

Oh thanks you gals! I really appreciate your comments and suggestions. Yes, I see that 2 products have the FX name! ResMed has FX "nose pillow AND a brand new FX Mirage "nasal mask" out, both with the FX name (nice & way to confusing!).

The Mirage FX Nasal Mask is the one that I'm wanting to order but it does NOT come in small, just sandard or wide. Tonight, is my 3rd night, on the Swift LT nose pillow in XS, but I'm not sure I'm a nose pillow chic, but, I'm a side and back sleeper and I read the nose pillow is good for that.

Any small nosed chic's with any more feedback on the *new Mirage FX "Nasal" for her....PLEASE give me some feedback on it (it doesn't come in small, but they say fits 90% of everyone), or if you tried the Mirage Nasal Micro SMALL, or if you have suggestions. From my reading, the New Mirage FX sounds very good, it is lightweight, only 4 pieces, soft, skinny line up the nose and a new flex thing on the forhead instead of the 24 adjustment larger dial and it sounds VERY nice.

I guess worst case, I do this for 6 months and then try a new mask. My stats are: 9 CPAP Respronics Remstar Plus C-Flex now but switching to A-Flex (auto ajusting) (lovely, Apria ordered me the cheaper machine, of course) and (for today, I'm a Swift LT nose pillow for her XS).

There is the mask trial you might consider.http://www.cpaplibrary.com/mask-trials.html

You can try a mask for a week. All it costs is $14 which is for the shipping ($7 each way)

I have the new mirage fx nasal mask in wide. I switched from using nasal pillows. This mask is so easy to clean, lightweight, the best part is you can disconnect the hose and leave the mask intact for any nighttime calls. You might want to try the smaller size.

HB...I'd like to send you a pm, but don't see an icon. I have a new comfort classic you might be interested in trying...I am a small person too, but this felt too small once I used it at home and have switched to the comfort gel. Pm me if you'd like more info....

My first mask was the Mirage FX and I really loved the feel of it. It is soft and very lightweight! My chief complaint was that it would "poke" into the corners of my eyes and I also felt like it rested too low on my lip. My DME said it was because I didn't have a lot of room between my forehead and lip, so I think I might be in similar situation as you. She suggested that I switch to the Swift FX, using XS pillows - and I was up for it because I was also feeling a little claustrophobic in the Mirage FX (couldn't read or watch TV with that thing on). I can say they're more comfortable for me, especially as a side sleeper.

My DME said that everyone she's had using the Mirage FX loved it except for 3 people...and all of us had the same thing in common...that short area between top of nose and lip.
