Just got back from my gastroscopy today - I have a hiatal hernia that gotten larger (had for over 20 yrs due to pregnancy but recently it has been causing me a lot of trouble.) I told the GI previously I have very severe apnea & did not want to sleep. They gave me local anaesthetic spray (tasted terrible) and a very small amount of sedative for the proceedure. I was awake for the whole thing although it's not easy relaxing while they stick a tube down your throat, I managed (they also took a small biopsy). Afterwards, I requested they keep my bed up so I would not doze off. (I was surprised they did not ask about OSA, I volunteered the information and told them several times I did not want to go to sleep.
I will probably need surgery (and general anaesthetic for it.) Anynoe here with OSA had surgery under general. Did the hospital let you brimg your CPAP/APAP for the recovery room or did they supply one?

Re: Gastroscopy, Surgery and OSA
You won't need to worry during surgery as you will have a breathing tube. Most hospitals will request information on your OSA in the pre-op interview. Our local hospitals here all require you to bring your own machine for use in hospital, but you will need to find out your hospital's protocol.
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.
Re: Gastroscopy, Surgery and OSA
I have had several hospital admissions at at least three different hospitals since starting XPAP 23 or so years ago. Each time I let my admitting doctor and the anesthesiology people know that I am an apnea patient. My admitting doctor put it in my initial orders and I was always allowed to bring my own machine and use it, and I assuredly would raise cain if the institution attempted to prevent me from doing this.
