aching for a good night's sleep

Post by Tee » Sun Sep 25, 2011 5:32 pm

I am so looking forward to a full 8+ hours of sleep. I have averaged less than 4 hours of sleep a night, not due to the CPAP machine, but due to a life circumstances (MIL ill and passing away). I have used my CPAP when I was asleep and have my numbers, which show that I am doing pretty well or at least I think I am doing pretty well.

Total hours used: 24.30
Median Daily Usage: 4:43 (ugh)
Apnea index: 0.9
Obstructive: 0.7
Hypopnea index: 0.2
AHI: 1.1

Knock on wood, I have had no problems keeping it on, with the mask, with the humidifier, etc. It has really been nice.

Sorry to hear about the troubles, but OTOH, it's good to hear you're having success and staying persistant and consistant with your therapy. Great numbers too. Good luck on getting the 8 hours, that is sooo important. Keep up the good work
Thinking of quitting CPAP?

No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:

Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Congrats on the good numbers. Don't be too hard on yourself about the hours of use right now. Sometimes we just have things going on out of our control. Besides, I started out barely getting 4 hours myself and I didn't have your external stressors. It will get easier to sleep longer with time and experience.

Tee...sorry to hear of your loss, but certainly understand your situation...I care for my mother who has dementia and sometimes it's hard for me to get more than 2 hrs. sleep at a time. Last few nights have been much better in getting close to 4, sometimes a little over, and your numbers look much better than mine!! I hope you will soon get those 8 hrs. with continued good numbers!

Gracious! You definitely have our prayers. While I know you are "aching for a good night's sleep", just think how much worse you would feel without the advantage of xPAP therapy! Your loss will tend to disturb your sleep / rest. Such a life event (no matter what you thought of the other person) will always impact your rest. But with your CPAP, you will sleep better those hours of sleep that you do get. You will be better able to face the stresses of the day.

And here's hoping (with our prayers) that your stresses of the day improve and you continue to attain better sleep. Best wishes to you and your family.
