Please fill in your equipment in your profile so we know what kind of machine you have.

Several people have said their insurance wouldn't pay for backup batteries. I don't recall anyone having had success getting insurance to pay for a battery.

Will you be driving to the campsite or backpacking? How many days at a time?

If your Dr writes a Rx for it, then maybe they would pay for it. I had my Dr write an Rx for the software, and used my MSA (Medical Spending Account) to pay for the software and module and they did approve it, because I had the script for it. I just copied the description of what I wanted from cpap.com and then had my Dr write it on a Rx...

CPAP is not usually classified as "life support" equipment. I seriously doubt your insurance will cover a back-up battery.

best depends on your needs. Search for "battery backup design". It is the design that I put together and use. It does not cost a lot, but can last several nights and continue to work for several years. But it is NOT very portable.

And, nope. Insurance will not cover it.

Is there even a billing code for a battery backup?

Sure. If you used a respirator 24/7, I bet the DME would include the cost (and code for it) of a battery backup setup. But we do not need that type of support 24/7.
