prescription for software ?

Post by jonfb » Wed Feb 01, 2006 1:35 pm

Hi.

I've had a Remstar pro for about 3 years now, but I'm thinking of switching to an APAP machine so that I can control that the sleep therapy actually work.

Since I live in Norway I don't have to pay for the machine, but my choice for machine is also limited. I have to get the Resmed Autoset Spirit and would like to buy the Software for it for self monitoring.

I was therefore wondering if I need to have a prescription for the software ?
I don't think I will be able to get the software from my Doc, since they don't want people to touch the settings on the machine. I therefore will have some problems getting a prescription for it.

Does anyone here know if I need a prescription ?

American law does not require a prescription; you might want to consult Norwegan law....my guess is that it doesn't either.

No, you don't need a prescription to buy software from online cpap supply stores.

In fact, except for buying a machine, you don't need a prescription to buy ANY cpap supplies (masks, humidifiers, hoses, etc.) from the online stores.

thanks for the swift replies. That makes it easier for me if my doctor refuses me the software, if they have it at all that is.

Since I'm an Telecoms engineer and a Bachelor of Nursing student I should't have a problem using the software and reading the graphs. It will be nice to know that the machine actually helps my breathing and APNEA.
