Humidifier settings

Post by Mannydog » Sat Aug 27, 2011 10:31 am

I'm sure that this has been covered many times before, but after some searching I haven't found a clear answer.

My DME said to start with the humidifier on 2, but didn't say what to look for to determine if that was a good setting.

How do I know if I need more or less humidity?

This is my third morning, and I can't say my nasal passages feel dry.
I do wake up with a funky mouth, but I am thinking that has to do with my continued mouth breathing.
Diagnosed with severe SA, and started CPAP 8-24-11.

Once it gets too high (humid) you will begin to get condensation (rainout). This will vary with the season and the weather as much as the temperature. Search for rainout or water in the hose.

I use a setting of 4. I like and need more moisture. You can try a bit more just to see if you like it better.
Rain out is typically more a winter problem. Lots of stuff possibly factoring in. Setting, ambient air temp and humidity, machine placement, type of mask...

Like you I doubt if it will help with the funky mouth but you might perceive an improvement in nasal passages even if you don't feel bad now. It sure wouldn't hurt to increase maybe 1 setting.. now some people do seem to experience more nasal congestion with increased humidity. It will be obvious if you are one of those. I am the other way, less humidity and I have nasal congestion really bad.

All depends on how much you feel like experimenting. Most of us eventually find the need to experiment.
