amazing results with Mirage FX mask!

Post by RandyJ » Thu Aug 25, 2011 6:11 am

Got the Mirage FX nasal mask yesterday through the Mask Trial Program (http://www.cpaplibrary.com/mask-trials.html) and tried it last night for the first time; the results were amazing: AHI 0.6, AI 0.1, Obstructive 0.1, HI 0.5 ... I can hardly believe it!!

I've been using a Mirage Quattro FF mask since my sleep study in March 2011 and have posted here about my struggle with leaks and whether to stay on cpap or switch to apap because of the results I was getting. AHI was always good at between 1.0 and 3.0, but I was still having lots of snore and multiple obstructive events and hypopneas.

Hardly any leak at all w/this mask: median 2.4, 95th percentile 4.8

My snore index last night looks completely different from anything to date: a couple of blips into the "loud" range between 2:00 and 3:00 am but hardly anything at all the rest of the night.

I get to use the mask for a week before sending it back; I'll get my dr to write a prescription for it if the next several days of results are as good as last night.

Have I found the right mask? Should I be as jubilant as I sound??

Could be just that.
Hope you didn't jinx yourself....

Congrats. The mask is 99.9% of why this therapy can be such a PITA. Find a good mask..and almost home free.

Sounds good, I would use it for at least five days before asking for a prescription. Congratualtions for choosing an intelligent way to try a new mask.

I would question, if you are not a mouthbreather, why were you using a Full Face Mask to start with? Whose idea was that?

On the other hand, if you are a mouthbreather, how are you going to get effective treatment from a nasal interface?

VVV - When I had my sleep study, I was a little bit congested and couldn't keep my mouth closed with the nasal masked they tried first, so they switched to FF mask and that is what I went home with and have had ever since.

Mary Z - yes thanks! I am going to get 5 to 6 nights of data before I send it back. Since my insurance company has never paid for a mask, I shouldn't have a problem getting a mask if I want to get this one.

Pugsy - I wanted to do a happy dance when I saw AHI of 0.6 Crossing my fingers...

Wow! Nicely done. I haven't had that kind of success with the Mirage FX, but I will say that once I got it figured out, it's been pretty good to me. Still struggling with leaks around the eyes.

A hearty congratulations! I love reading success stories.

Culby - thanks I hope the next several days are as good as the first. The Mirage Quattro has been difficult for me with leaks, the FX seems so much better (so far).
