Need help figuring out what settings to use.

Post by aManicCookie » Tue Aug 23, 2011 4:00 pm

Okay so I was 17 when I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I had a machine for a while and for the life of me can't remember what my setting was.

I lost my machine because I was dropped from my mothers insurance. I just got a new machine given to me and I want to start wearing it because I get no sleep... My head hurts all the time, etc.

But I'm scared to mess with the settings because I'm not sure what I need to be set at. I have a REMstar M series.

I can not afford to get a sleep study done nor see a doctor because it's so expensive.

Can anyone help?

Determine which M Series machine you have and look at above website for a link to the clinician manual so you can get into the machine and see what all it offers.

Once you have determined which machine please add it to your profile so we can help you better.
This explains how to..wiki/index.php/Registering_Equipment_in_User_Profile

If you have a full data machine there is software available to see if your pressure (whatever you choose) is sufficient.

What pressure to start with? Can you request your old records? It will be in those records.

I tried getting my previous records and they are saying it has been too long. It isn't a machine that auto records.

It's old and called a "REMstar auto: M series"

Just a thought....would it be possible to start at one of the lower pressures and see how well you do from there? If you do fine one night, you can up it a point each night until you feel you've reached as much as you need or can tolerate.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?

No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:

Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

Well if M Series Auto it will have data. Go to that website above and get the clinical manual for it. You need to be able to get into it to set it up.

I have M series Auto. I started on it and just this past spring got the PR S1.

To use the software you will need the special card reader. No generic will do. Must be this one.

The data available on screen is limited to 7/30 day AHI averages, leak and I think 90% pressure if using in APAP mode.
You are basically going to have to self titrate. I can help with the software if you have $40 for the card reader.

So why did you stop cpap before? Are you going to run into same problem now? How long has it been? Was there ever any mention of centrals in your previous studies?

Starting pressure? I would do 8 cm min and 14 maximum just to see where it wants to go.
