Looking for best tape for mouth taping !

Post by LittleRedTruck » Mon Aug 22, 2011 10:07 am

Im wondering what your using for mouth taping. The best Ive found so far is the new 3M Kind tape. Its pricey though, $10 shipped from 3M online. Ive checked with 4 different pharmacy and they cant order it. So have been looking for a more affordable solution. So if you have something that works well. Would sure like to know about it. Thanks, Dan

I use J&J First Aid heavy duty fabric tape, one verticle strip in the center of mouth (about 2" with tag on the lower end). Find it at almost any big pharmacy, less than $3 a roll. Some folks prefer the blue painters masking tape, at any haedware store...also inexoensive.

Someone in a previous post suggested the Micropore tape available thru Amazon.com. I think it is 2 inch tape. I thought I might try that one. Not expensive and is the type that should not pull skin.

This tape is perfect for me. Cheap too for as much as you get.

Dan....

Here's what you need to know about 3M 2" Blue #2080 tape for Delicate Surfaces. It's great stuff....and not too expensive at Lowe's.

Every night, I use a strip about 10" long. I fold the ends down 1/2" to make removal "handles".

I apply horizontally so that my lips are positioned in the middle....vertically and horizontally. In other words, the top edge of the tape is just below my nose.

I experience zero discomfort when removing. The trick is to pull the tape over itself....pull parallel to the face....not perpendicular to the face.

My AHI stays at or below 1.0 and my therapy is successful. I wouldn't think of sleeping without tape. It's FAR more comfortable than a full face mask.

I have been taping every night for over (3) years....with zero problems.

I tape horizontal. One piece with the end slightly doubled over so it will come off easier in the morning. Then I put another, slightly smaller piece over the first but a bit lower, to give it some extra sticking power when I start tossing and turning during the night

The idea of folding down the ends is good. This tape is pretty darn sticky (as long as you don't drool all over it like I did one night) and a couple of mornings, I really had a heck of a time getting it started. After I get out of the shower, I always double check for any spots of adhesive that may be left over.
