Quattro FX - 1st night tonight

Post by pdean44 » Fri Aug 19, 2011 4:38 pm

Hi Everyone. Have not logged in here for a while. I have been having a busy summer. Today I went for my yearly review with my cpap doc. They gave me a big thumbs up and said my stats look great. I am still averaging 2 apneas per hour roughly.

I picked up a quattro fx and tonight will be my first go round with this mask. I am hoping it will be much more comfortable than my old mask. I will let you know how it goes.

When I made my switch to Quattro FX, I prayed that it would make my therapy more pleasant, I just absolutely hated the Mirage FX with that big thumb screw pad on my forehead ( used for 8 months)....The Quattro FX is a 5 star mask as far as I am concerned...started using it in may 2011---good luck--FA

Just started using the FX myself and really like the fit. I'm a newbie so I've only had a small amount of experience with the larger Quatto with the "forehead-screw" but the FX is so much lighter and more comfortable. Hope it works well for you.

I swear by this mask.
Gives me excellent therapy, and no problems...EXCEPT the headgear that it normally comes with does stretch out in a very short period of time. I use a medium mask, but I have to have them give me the small size headgear, which works out pretty good.
You DO NOT have to get this mask with same size headgear as the mask. Your insurance is billed for these items separately anyway, and my DME says ResMed allows for this.
I've heard of people saying this mask "moves" on your face. That has NOT happened to me, and I'm getting NO leaks.
Please let us know how it works out for you.

I was started out on the Mirage Quattro when I was hooked up with Darth Vader (what I have nicknamed my CPAP kit) back in late December and once the Quattro FX became available at my DME (I live in the Metro Vancouver area), I was determined to get one to try out. My DME sold it to me for CAD 275$ but if I need to get a new one, I will order via our hosts, now that I know what size to get (I have found a w*rkaround to circumvent ResMed's out of country sales restrictions).

I have been using the mask for about a month now and while it does shift on my face some nights (usually if I do not clean it for 2-3 nights), I still love it.

I love that it does not have that damned forehead support that my Mirage Quattro has.

I love that I can wear my glasses with it on - I set the ramp time to about 45 minutes so I can fall asleep reading a book in bed.

I love the fact that it is compact in size.

Basically, the only thing that I do not like about it is the Canadian MRSP... damn you, ResMed!

I have used it for several nights now. Still adjusting the straps a bit to get that comfort sweet spot. I have to say that it is a big improvement over the quattro. The fx is a lot more comfortable. I have not had a problem with it shifting so far. I am pretty happy with it. I dont have to wear the nose cushions to protect the bridge of my nose like i did with the quattro. I dont miss that center screw on my forehead

I was concerned about the mask because of all the problems folks were posting about leaks etc. So far I have not had those issues.

The below two links show covers for your lower straps and a mask liner. It makes the fit more comfortable. http://www.padacheek.com/PAC_Original.html

When you take your mask apart for cleaning make sure to mark or measure the top strap length. If I remember to do this I seldom if ever need to make major adjustments to the mask.

I've been using the FX for almost a week and like it. The only issue I have is the air vent at the top seems to blow on my forehead/eyes occasionally. I check frequently to see if there is a leak in that area but don't find any. I'm wondering if the mask is positioned too high on my nose or if the design of the vent is to blame. I'd like to put a small piece of tape over the very edge of the vent just to block a very small section of the vent holes but am afraid I'll cause problems with the general operation of the mask. Any suggestions?

I seem to keep breaking the seal after sleeping a few hours. I have been having a tough time finding the right strap tension for comfort and no leaks as the night progresses. The last few nights have been tough the first couple went fairly well. The mask over all is more comfortable. Hopefully I can get the mask leaks under control.
