Pillow boiling, need advice
This is my first time using pillows. I have a Hybrid Issomed. I have used the same pillows for about two months now and have read about boiling the pillows to keep them firmer. not sure I can tell when they need boiling. I want to know how this is done, do I boil water first and drop them in for five minutes? Also how long do you use them before you start boiling them? After first boil, how often should I boil them?
Thanks for your help

Don't do it.

I boiled my Swift FX nasal pillow this week, rotated to a new one, so haven't tried the boiled one yet, but it seemed to look and feel okay when I let it air dry. I boiled for 15 minutes at full boil. Don't know whether it will help me with seal but it did not look to hurt the pillow.

Have not boiled them yet but just this morning I washed them in hot water- letting hot water run over them for couple of minutes and that alone seems to have made them a little firmer.

Re: Pillow boiling, need advice
I have put my pillows in distilled water brought to a boil in the microwave,
and leaving them to soak for 10-15 minutes while the water cools.
This is less than silicone baby nipples are meant to take; and works fairly well.
I'm just too chicken to do this on top of the stove; burned too many eggs/potatoes.

Re: Pillow boiling, need advice
If you do a search for "pillow boiling" you will find much information. I wouldn't do it until I had a spare pair.

Re: Pillow boiling, need advice
If you've bought a spare pair or two and have pillows that you're about to throw away because they're mushy, give it a try before throwing them away.
Find out your pillow replacement schedule and cost with your insurance. Get a few spare pairs. Check online and ebay to see if you can buy spares cheaper without insurance.

Re: Pillow boiling, need advice
I have traded on this forum and bought spares on ebay for cheaper than I can get with my insurance.

Re: Pillow boiling, need advice
I hate to admit this, but...
I boiled my pillows dry a couple of weeks ago. Strangely enough, the pot came out a lot worse than the pillows did! I used the pillows and they worked just fine. Boiling only seems to work once or twice for me, though.

Re: Pillow boiling, need advice
I do find that adding a teaspoon of BiCarb of Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate) stops a scum forming. Its very safe and is washed off anyway.
I thinks its best if the pillows are removed from the boiling water and immediately rinsed in cold water.
As stated above please only try this if you already have a spare.
