Post by Pastor Mark » Mon Aug 15, 2011 5:40 pm

I just got a replacement mask and the top of my nose is raw after a week of use. what can I do? will this stop or do I need to get new mask... I had used the same mask for 8 years and needed to replace it so we purchased the same one don't know why this is happening.

I'm not familiar with your mask but does it have a forehead adjustment tab that may be need to be set correctly for you? And I'm sure you washed and rinsed it thoroughly before using the first time?

Sometimes a moleskin, bandaid, or medical tape over the spot can help. Try adjusting the headgear, any mask adjustments, etc.

Wow, did you use the same mask for 8 years with no new cushions, flaps, etc.? Was it the FlexiFit HC405?

I have been getting replacement parts for this mask and have just purchased a full new mask.
Thank you though and I will try the mole skin.
I am also looking at getting a new mask - the mirage soft gel mask

If the forehead has no adjustment, you can try a little padding under the forehead cushion
--just enough to lift it off your nose bridge, but not enough to release a torrent of air into your eyes.
Your poor nose! You may need to rig up a dressing to cover the wound until it heals.
That silicone rubbing on a raw spot is no fun at all.
My DH tried the Soft gel; and it is one I might try myself--sooo cushy!
Good luck, and welcome to the forum.

anyone know if Drs can write a script for ANY mask or patient preference or something to that effect?
My DME is horrible and uncooperative. I finally got to try a Ultra Mirage FF mask after fighting the swift fx nasal pillows w/chinstrap for 3 months and multiple attempts to try something new.
Last two nights have been better, but I think I want to try the fit life mask at some point. I'd rather just pay cash and order off the net, but I'd need a script first.

the doctors can write it that way... question is, will your DME accept it that way?

Our Dr wrote on the RX "mask of patient's choice" and we had no problem.

I don't have a separate rx for masks, mine just says.........cpap at 11 cm of h20, and I have used it on the net to the buy a mask.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Most of the online retailers will sell you any CPAP or mask as long as the prescription says "cpap."

Bilevel machines may require a different prescription.

Most online retailers have pages with their prescription policy listed.

Edit - Here's our host's prescription policy.
