Why is that whenever I feel the hotplate in the morning for the humidifier, that it is always cold like it hasnt been on? When I pre-warm it and open it up, the plate is warm/hot but in the morning its room temperature. I run the humidifier on setting 3/3.5, with a room temp in the mid to high 60s and humidity in the 50s but the incoming CPAP air feels cold and dry Also it seems like the water hardly drops, could go 2 weeks without refilling. Slimline hose used.
Was also thinking about investing in a climateline hose, worth it?

Re: the ClimateLine hose. This is what I was given. I had a "heated tube failure" error once or twice -- my DME said this was due to a defect in the humidifier; not the tube, but I don't know whether I believe it or not. In less than a year, I've had two ClimateLine hoses rupture in the area where they connect to the machine. Part of this might be due to the fact that I have a two year old who messes with the machine when I forget to put it out of his reach, but I also suspect that ClimateLine hoses are not terribly durable. After the second one broke, I started using a standard hose that I bought from cpap.com. With that the machine won't let you choose the desired temperature; it instead gives you some humdifier setting -- I just left it on the default. As far as how I feel, I notice no difference in my comfort. So I would tend to say that I don't think the ClimateLine is very useful. On the contrary, it seems expensive and fragile.

Re: H5i Humidifier Broken?
The plate does not need to be "warm to the touch" to be working. The purpose of a heated humidifier is to get more water molecules into the air flow to your mask over a period of several hours, not to explicitly "heat up" the air or water. It does not necessarily need to be "warm/hot" to achieve that goal.Padron192664 wrote:Why is that whenever I feel the hotplate in the morning for the humidifier, that it is always cold like it hasnt been on?
That's because in a pre-warm mode it is running pretty much of maximum for a short period of time.Padron192664 wrote:When I pre-warm it and open it up, the plate is warm/hot....
Given the amibient humidty, that's not surprising. If the air feels dry, you need to be using a higher humidifier setting.Padron192664 wrote:I run the humidifier on setting 3/3.5, with a room temp in the mid to high 60s and humidity in the 50s but the incoming CPAP air feels cold and dry Also it seems like the water hardly drops
As far as the air feeling cold, you need a heated hose, such a Climateline, to address that. I've been using a Climateline hose for about 20 months now with no problems.

While I don't use Resmed I do know they have acknowledged design changes to the hose where it connects and was frequently broken.Marcman wrote:So I would tend to say that I don't think the ClimateLine is very useful. On the contrary, it seems expensive and fragile.
The rest of what Bill mentioned about the humidifier is true. I know when I first started I wanted warmer air too but now seem to enjoy much cooler air esp. in summer. The warmer air heats you from the inside out and can contribute to sweats while sleeping.
