As I approach discount age -- and have arrived there already for some of these -- I find myself asking, why? What is it that will make me so much more desired as a customer at 60 than I was at 59 that merchants will be willing to knock a percentage off their prices?

Too funny. My husband and I won't qualify for senior discounts for a few years, but recently we went to the movie theatre. The teenaged young lady at the ticket counter looked at my husband, looked at me, then looked back at my husband and didn't say anything. When we got our tickets, we saw she had given us both the senior discount. When my husband told her we weren't that old yet, she asked if it would make up for the insult if she let us keep the discount!

I've always wondered what that stuff really is that Arby's put those sandwiches?

Our local Taco Bells offer free senior Pepsis w/purchase. I often get a Nacho Supreme and free Senior Pepsi. Its my most common fast food indiscretion. Currently $2.32 It was $1.79 for the longest time, then gas shot up and so did my Nacho Supremes and Senior Pepsi, first to $2.11 and now the $2.32.

Not Big Lots--incorrectly included in the list.

Most of the places where I've been given a senior discount require that you ask for the discount, even though you obviously qualify for it. There are advantages to growing old.

It's because a lot of old farts that age are only living off Social Security. Which isn't much.
