I think I am finally set up correctly

Post by Erkman » Wed Aug 03, 2011 1:39 pm

After around 4 months of messing with different masks, an insurance change and new equipment I think I am finally set up to get some real therapy. I have put off my follow up DR appointment for months so I can give an honest answer on whether this is working or not. After working through the new insurance company, I am finally using a mask that works for me and a machine that will give me some real feedback. Trying now to acquire the software to find out what's happening every night (much easier to sleep for one, with the new mask).

I was shocked to find out that many DR's don't want the data from the machines (how can you make a good diagnosis of it working without it?) I think mine is one of those, so I will bring the data myself

How long to expect to feel some difference? I THINK I have more energy during the day now, but very hard to tell. Was speaking with the equipment people, and they related a story about one guy came in to return the equipment stating that it was not working at all, then came back a week later and felt awful.... apparently the change crept up on him and he never realized how big of a difference it made. I have high hopes!

Gear being used is below

Machine: S9 Elite™ CPAP Machine with EPR™
Mask: Mirage Quattro™ Full Face CPAP Mask with Headgear
Humidifier: S9™ Series H5i™ Heated Humidifier with Climate Control

I see you already found Uncle Bob's link.

Tutorial on how to use the ResScan software here

Or use member developed software still in its infancy but does quite well.

This question is often asked. The answer is there is no set time limit where one expects to see marked improvement.
Some people are lucky and see it immediately. Some people may take weeks or months. Some people never do see huge improvement. How we might feel day to day can be impacted by any number of other factors that affect how we fill or the quality of our sleep.

I usually suggest that if a person isn't feeling as well as they should that they first take a look at the software reports to make sure nothing needs improvement in the therapy part of things. Then I suggest that they take a look at other possible factors such as hours of sleep, fragmented sleep for any reason, insomnia, pain, meds, general health issues, mattress comfort, mask comfort and the list goes on. It is not all about just good AHI numbers. We often carry other baggage to bed with us that impacts how we feel the next day. Cpap only helps address the sleep apnea part of the baggage.

Welcome to the forum. Lots of great people here to offer their support and experience here to help you get the most out of this therapy.
