tooth soreness

Post by c218 » Fri Jul 29, 2011 10:04 am

I have been struggling for month with a cpap machine and several different masks. When I wake up in the morning I have sore front teeth. I am using a nasal pillow system and have the tube up off my face, it also is a loose as possible to still seal. I can not figure out what is causing my teeth to hurt.

Masks that are too tight can cause this. Try loosening the straps to ease the tension on the nasal pillows. Wiggle them a little after the adjustment to check for leaks. Adjust as necessary. If you are wearing a chin strap, that can also cause pressure on the lower lip and tooth sensitivity.

I am on cpap 8 nights now, so very new, but I can relate to tooth sensitivity. For now, I am tolerating it and chalking it up to getting used to things. I also read that tooth sensitivity can be related to sinus infection. I am prone to those so I am going to keep an eye on this in case there is something subacute brewing in my sinuses.

I have found since switching to nasal pillows that I push my tongue into the back of my teeth, usually the top teeth, but sometimes also the bottom. It's caused soreness, loose teeth, and gaps between my front teeth.
I'm working really hard on relaxing and trying to stop this, but I still wake up pushing.

It's common for sinus pain to be referred to the upper incisors. Did that ever happen to you before CPAP? You might have a sinus infection, but it's also very common for new CPAP users to have some sinus weirdness for a while. Try adjusting your humidifier. Hopefully your body will adapt soon.

I had similar issues when I started. A full face mask that fit stopped it. Give it some time and it works wonder. I know its a pain at first. Well worth it. Changing my life for the much better
