mirage swift issues - any advice?

Post by greengirl » Fri Jan 20, 2006 4:14 pm

Hi, I am new to this forum and new to cpap.

I have been using my cpap for just over 5 weeks. The first mask I had was the gel Profile Lite nasal mask. It was okay but I had to strap it on so tight in order not to have any leaks it was leaving a tender red mark on the bridge of my nose all day. So last week I went to my DME and got the Mirage Swift nasal pillows. I like that it is less obtrusive than the nasal mask, but it does not seem to stay on as well. I feel like it is always on the verge of coming off, almost like I need one more strap going from my cheeks to the back of my neck. I also really miss being able to snuggle into my pillow (how I usually sleep.) My posture in sleep feels very forced now. I have had a few pretty good nights, but certainly not the dramatic results I was hoping for. I know it may take a while, and I am prepared to keep at it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I use a piece of 1/8 inch elastic that is about 18 inches long looped into the little triangles at the end of the nasal pillow insert. It is then double behind my head and I keep one part of the loop above my ears and the other below them. The elastic is tied and taking the mask off and on is easy.

I used 1/8 inch elastic because that is what I had at home. You probably can use something a little bigger tooas my first try was with a slightly larger piece off an old oxygen mask. I tried a shoelace retying it every night but that was too hard to take off fast and this will work for as long as the elastic holds itself. I also tried a shoelace from the top of the headgear down to under my chin but for me this one piece of elastic is working.

Profile lite gel mask

Post by Guest » Mon Jan 23, 2006 1:13 pm

I have been with my CPAP for about 3 weeks now. I don't feel very compliant...my nose hurts so badly during the night that I rarely leave it on for more than a couple of hours. I first tried the Mirage Swift Nasal Pillows but they were very irritating even with a heated humidifier...then tried the Breeze Sleep Gear pillows...OUCH! I think my nares may be too slotted for nasal pillows...now I would like to try a mask instead...does anyone have feedback on the Profile Lite Gel Mask, Comfort Classic, or Comfort Select...? Any other suggesstions for a small or petite would be appreciated..

AYR gel

Nope, haven't tried AYR yet...I tried aquaphor ointment and Zicam nasal saline with aloe. Isn't AYR gel basically the same thing?
Thanks for your help.
