Can i get RESSCAN working on my Mac?

Post by 91rock » Mon Jul 25, 2011 3:38 pm

I am new to cpaptalk and have read many of the posts on various topics and I first want to thank the folks who sent it up - a great contribution!
This is my first post so hopefully I am doing this right. I just started using the Resmed S9 and would very much like to have access to the RESSCAN information. What is viewable on the machine is helpful but I know there is a lot more to be gained by using RESSCAN. I am strictly a Mac user and would like to avoid using Windows in a big way. I downloaded the code but where do I go from here? Any and all help would be appreciated.

Possibly but using Bootcamp or Parallels or even the free Oracle Virtual Box software (google VirtualBox)

VB is a very good & effective virtual machine that runs on most OSes & would allow you to install Windows
(you will need Windows to run ResScan). XP would do the job (shd be easier to obtain than Win 7).

Good luck

DSM
xPAP and Quattro std mask (plus a pad-a-cheek anti-leak strap)

I'm new to the cpap world but haven't been able to find any native Mac applications for ResMed machines. Programs like Parallels and VMFusion allow you to run Windows on your Mac. VMFusion works very well for me. This requires that you purchase the Parallels or VMFusion program at about $75 and purchase a copy of Windows but its really worth it for the wealth of information that it makes available to you.

I haven't found time to do this myself yet - but as an Apple user I couldn't help pointing out this thread for you to read:

viewtopic/t65738/SleepyHead-Qt-v08-alpha.html

Looks like the second or so post talks about how they got it ported to and running on SnowLeopard (MacOS X) - so if you are adverse to running Windows on your Mac via one of the other suggested methods, perhaps this will work for you

Oh, and there is also a web based solution you might be interested in. I've had difficulty always getting it to work - but that might just be me:

It is fairly easy to use Boot Camp to set up a windows partition on a mac. However, you still need a full copy of windows (not a system restore disk for a specific manufacturer's computer only) to install on that partition. This would entail booting your mac to windows to run resscan. That's how I do it.

Another option, currently in a rough stage of development, is to use SleepyHead. At this point, however, you would need to build the program from source code. That is not for the feint of heart. Also, SleepyHead is currently in the alpha stage, meaning that it is incomplete and has lots of bugs. I posted a step-by-step guide to building SleepyHead for the mac in the thread cited above. Those steps work for Snow Leopard but require modifications for Lion.

SleepyHead needs more testers on the mac.
