Rosanne's Nuts and OSA

Post by backchat » Sat Jul 23, 2011 3:35 pm

I am a OSA newbie- dealing with my first week of life as "apnea" diagnosed. I just wanted to share that I was amused watching the latest episode of the reality show, Rosanne's Nuts, starring comedienne Rosanne Barr. In this weeks episode, Rosanne's companion is disturbed by her snoring- she goes in for a sleep study, is diagnosed with OSA, an brings home a C-PAP machine. Though the whole episode is only 22 minutes, I thought it was well done and it made me laugh, which is important for me on this journey. I showed my husband some of the highlights- nice to point out that OSA happens to all types of people. Plus, I liked her companion's positive attitude about Rosanne coming to bed with her mask

The show is on the Lifetime channel. We don't have fancy cable, so I watched it online- just search for Rosanne's Nuts. Whether you love her or hate her, it was a good show about OSA.

I enjoyed your description enough to overcome my general dislike for Roseanne (although some replays of the old show she was on with John Goodman whom I do enjoy are funny) . . . I digress . . .anyway I'm recording the OSA episode : ) Thanks for posting it!

OT: I had hopes that Men of a Certain Age would continue to use the XPAP as regular occurrence in Andre Braugher's character but I haven't seen it again.

I wonder how many more celebrities are just waiting for diagnosis--and of them, how many will avail themselves of treatment.
If CPAP can make such a profound difference in the life of a muddle like me--imagine the difference for some of those others.

IMHO you're much less likely to be/do stupid 'muddle' than well known public figures. I think for myself if I was ever very famous I'd get stupid really quick.

My wife, who used to record the show and encourage me to watch it, told me that it has not been renewed. The actors were great and I wanted to like it, but I always chose more escapist fare over the trials of average middle-aged guys.

I would continue to watch it if it had more humor relief to all the realistic life struggles. I expected it would with Ray Romano in it but perhaps he was looking to branch out his acting beyond his already well-known comedic skills. The irony is, there aren't many main male roles for their age group.

I wonder how she got in for a sleep study so quickly. They probably thought about the mask would improve her appearance and did a rush job. Jim

I think it was all editing...after all, it doesn't sound like many of us go in for a study immediately and has their machine the next night? Just the magic of TV and the need to have everything wrapped up and tidy in 22 minutes The Big Island of Hawaii (she had her sleep study done in Hilo) has only 175,000 or so people, so probably not a long waiting time for a study- and of course the celeb factor usually counts for something! I read on their website that this particular center is able to schedule people for a study within a week's time.

I also saw an episode of Gene Simmons Family Jewels (from Season 6) where they have Gene land at the airport (he had been on tour) and go directly to the sleep study office. He did have apnea, but according to the show, he only used the machine once and then it got stored under his bed.

Maybe we will see more real life portrayals of OSA as more people are diagnosed- especially if those people are screenwriters and producers

It doesn't get much more than that, then it got stored under his bed. He fell in with the 50%.

I so agree w/you, Gasp. The minute I saw the first few commercials for Men of a Certain Age I eagerly awaited its start. The premise is just such a great idea! And I really like Ray, Scott and Andre. But the few times I watched the show it was really a disappointment and I quit watching it.
